Here it is:

Trip:  Halkyn Deep Level via Rhyd Alyn

Trip type: Tourist trip for newbies & digging for those who dare

Meet time: 18.30

Meet point: Rhydymwyn garage forecourt

Notes:  It is wet on entry/exit into Rhyd Alyn.

-----

Tim and Joel are going in for the full day to work on a digging project on the Halkyn Deep Level. If anyone wants to join in with the dig, contact Tim directly.

Advisable to bring a harness and cows-tails if you have them.

(wet being slightly damp - water normally (annoyingly) about an inch over the top of wellies for the first few meters and then dry for the rest of the trip!

Just enough to soak your feet on the way in - and again on the way out!

Think its about time some stepping stones were sorted out!

Joel and I will be going in earlier in the day to try to make some progress on the Halkyn Deep Level Dig. Anyone who wants to come and help drop me a line.

Any chance of the evening trip bringing in a little bit of scaffold, some clips and another ladder section....? (Needed for the ladder platform and also potentially for the dig) would be a good 'use' of the manpower ;-)

I'm trying to sort a Babysitter out for this.

If I can, is someone coming through/past/from Wrexham or Chester?
You want me to go down *there*? On a bloody *rope*?

Joel Colk

I'm still up for this one :)

Bella and I can't come out on 29th as we will both be in London.

I have arranged a Babysitter.

All I need to do is get there... is anyone coming through/from/past Wrexham?

If not, where do I need to get to, so I can suss out the public transport, and see if that's feasable.

There are two potential meet points but the most likely one is near Mold (could someone shove a map up of the caravan park we use - I dunno how to).

Transport to Mold probably won't be hard but transport to the meet point will be a toughie - best bet is to see if anyone can grab you in Mold.

Sadly I am coming from the opposite direction - sorry :(

Ian

PS. It should be noted that the trip "to and from" the dig is strenuous - to quote Doug; "You would pay a fortune in a gym for a workout like that". I agree.

Getting to Mold is easy enough... it's getting back to Wrexham I'm more worried about! I'll see what time Buses stop running, but I suspect i'm screwed if we're late out.

As for strenuous? That's what I need.

Given that i'm home in time, I will be up for this.. Newstuff, If I do go I may be able to help you out as I will be coming from Wrexham.. I haven't been down there before, what sort of gear will we need? and what does it involve :)

You won't need SRT.  There are several areas where you "should" clip on with cowstails to navigate past holes but you could manage without if you are careful.

There are numerous ladders in various conditions - no lifelines.

You will need grit, determination and stamina especially for the return journey :)

Gosh, it sounds fantastic!
I hope I will get a go at this hole on another occasion, as we will be in London on 29th.  The Bog mine trip was a good training for this one.

TLH. That would be great... where/when do you want to meet? That's assuming you can make it. I'll PM you my number beforehand. I suspect I met you in my work... FX Headlamp battery pack?

Ian, I'll make sure to bring Energy drink, it sounds interesting. Are the ladders better or worse than Bog Mine?

Indeed you did, I've now sorted that issue by buying a Duo :P We can sort something out over PM i'm sure. I will find out where I am working throughout the week and with any luck it will be local so i'm home in time :)
