The south stack light

The south stack light sweeps over the swell, many miles out to sea
and sailors count the seconds, to check which light it might be

the light is calling its name with each pass, over the sea tonight
and sailors take heed, whenever they see, the flash of the south stack light

the light swings across the folded cliffs, cheating the dark with each dash
for a moment in time the cliffs are alight with each shimering silver flash

but don't come too close the light is calling, the rocks are sharp over here
follow the coast to a safer harbour, the light says, I don't want you near

six times a minute, the light swings by, six times a minute all night
so those at sea will find their way home, thanks to the south stack light
