It is a complete pain in the ass trying to navigate/use this forum now. It was bad before the chat module was added but now it is even worse.

Timbo, do we need to upgrade our hosting package cause this is getting beyond a joke now. It's doing my freakin head in.

Can you remove the chatroom thing (it's not being used anyway) to see if it improves things in the meantime?

any better?

seem ok'ish for me but it was ok'ish with it enabled.

had a busy day (for once) but i'll play about tomorrow with it on and off and see how much difference it makes.

moving to a dedicated server is a massive cost compared to now but i agree that its no good if people find it unbearable :-(

think the problem is that we're getting more brute force attacks then ever hitting the site - several hundred per min.

the sites, popular and very very well linked to and it comes with the territary :-(

not a huge amount i can do. I'll have another go at blanket blocking some IP address ranges tomorrow which is about all i can do.

Can some one explain why some people are having problems with our web site mine is fast as f..k I am
running windows 8.1 with firefox does this make any difference I  am not a computer buff my last laptop
had windows 7 but these stupid adverts kept popping up every time I was surfing that pissed me off so I through it in the bin and bought this one and was told I was  a dickhead  for chucking away a good laptop,
as far as I am concerned if I am getting my end away and the holes blocked up I,m not going to dig my way in or use an acro you just go out and get a better one , like  a hooker that's not going to be blocked now is it, I know what your thinking but you might need the acro at the back, that's possible if the last one was built like a brick shit house.

so I just ran some tests to see what I got on here as it slow for me too

ISP:- sky fibre
speedtest.net to london 4th server speeds:- 24ms ping, 37.63Mbps DL, 8.68Mbps UL.

time to open recent topics, 12seconds - 14 seconds
same test using VPN in germany, 9 seconds

ping test to site 22ms on all 4

using mobile on EE 4g.
speedtest.net to morcombe speeds:- 50ms ping, 47,39Mbps DL, 24.06Mbps UL.

time to open recent topic:- 15seconds

mobile used to test it not sky restricting the site.

Now the isitdownrightnow website is showing it both down and up
http://www.isitdownrightnow.com/ucet.org.uk.html

when it was up the responce time was 68.55ms

Dunno if it helps, but at work we use fail2ban on all our internet servers - this looks for hack attempts and repeated failed logins in the log files and adds the remote IP to the firewall for a few hours.
Blocking chinese address ranges has also made a big difference.

There's a Joomla plugin for fail2ban and cloudflare apparently have an api to block and unblock the IP...

hamilton,

yes already running similar which bans IP after 10 failed attempts.

But i think we are most likely getting hit by a DOS (just rapid fire home page loads) rather that purely a Brute force login attempt.

we're getting hit that hard with that many that i think its just taking its toll.

Hopefully they might move on elsewhere

spoke to host but in fairness its not their fault and theres little they can do.

Forum seems to have speeded up a bit today. Still not as quick as it used to be but there is an improvement.
