I am planning to take a newbie into Hendre Mine on Sunday afternoon.  Others are welcome. I have to visit John Crazy later in the morning to deliver some of my best stuff, and we will then probably have lunch at White Horse Cilcain or Hendre Royal Oak. Others are welcome to join us.  Then a simple mooch for someone who was initially saying 'Non No No' to going underground, but recently has been saying 'I can't wait to give it a try'. This newbie is local and an ex-geology teacher, so I hope she finds it interesting underground.

woo - would be great to have a geology expert on hand :-)

I'm away on my offshore holiday home John, otherwise i would have been tempted to join you! :-)

Hi Ian, Unfortunately no one else was available to join us, but fortunately it was such a super day that we decided to go walking up to Arthurs Camp on Clwyd Hills. I hope we will be able to take Andrea underground when Bella is on half term. We did meet John Crazy and very pleased to see him looking so well!

Andrea is good at geology, and having named most of the fossils in John's polished limestone steps, she spotted a conspicuous 'Productus' set firmly in his chimney breast. Productus can be recognised by its profound bulging shell - much like a very fat belly.  John said he found it in Milwr tunnel.

It's a pity she didn't get underground ... perhaps a little more notice next time and someone will be able to go with you. Although, you are perfectly capable of taking her down on your own  :)

Yes, sorry about the short notice. Normally Bella would have come too, but she was required for a boyfriend's family birthday event. I did not want to take a newbie underground on my own for a first trip - especially if there was any possible issue of risk.  I also remember the introduction we had to the underground with a group of voices calling 'Ladder free'.
