Meregill sound good to me. but also a trip with exchange option is always nice too. i dont mind helping rig. Also fancy taking camera. so miles of shitty crawling is less attractive.

Just a quickie if you are thinking of meregill be wary i know this system like the back of my hand it is without doubt the hardest coldest and wettest trip in the dales if the lake is you will be met with rushing water waist deep at the start all downhill chutes and life lines between pitches the waterfalls in high water are horrendous and you have to pass through one on a change over i nearly lost linda in this system and Ian turned around befor pitch 2 he will tell you how cold and debris is high up the walls and floods quick if you are down here and the heaven opens up there is no were to hide you muust put your hangers in way up in the roof for this reason, look for them do not use any around chest height they will underwater by the time you try to get back this is a good trip in summer but winter its worse than when i got trapped in swinto the volume of water is a lot more, so throw caution to the wind boys do not try to be hero,s its not worth it.

Why not book a hut? Most only cost £5 a night. Bull Pot farm will have space, it can take about 40+ people, and only GUPA are staying there next weekend.

I might pop up to the dales, currently there but sick as a parrot so not getting much done. Alternatively I might bring a couple people to survey Nadolig.

Weather in yorkshire is shite and most decent caves are gonna be a nightmare/undo-able. My vote we do something other than yorkshire as theres no point travelling all the way up there for nothing.

Anyway got anything more local on their wish list as an alternative?

there is no "plan "  due to the weather forcast for the dales :

thursday - heavy rain
Friday - heavy rain
Saturday - snow

none of the " epic trips " that will make a 3 hour drive to Yorkshire worthwhile are doable - kingsdale or meregill will be horrendous

I can think of 20 caves that are safe in the weather expected- but with no time to get a permit - the free ones are interesting - but not IMHO  worth the drive

so - I am very sorry - but plan b - is being planned - I have already spoken to tim - and he , ian and I will be attempting to plan an alternative tomorrow

it will be in wales or Derbyshire

sorry about that - but the closer it gets to Saturday - the worse things look

You could all save yourselves this kerfuffle by not going in caves...
oh, what fresh hell is this?

The Titan 'Duck' has some god awful worms in it at the moment, Mike. If you are going to do it though, go to White River Series, via block hall, pull through down the ventilator and you only need to take a 40m rope with you (provided Titan is rigged, I think Henry Rockliff is penciled in to go there on saturday - let me know and I'll ask him when we're down Oxlow). White river is not wet and is well worth a visit, best bit of peak. If you're feeling hardcore you could go and do Moosetrap on spits or if you're feeling really hardcore you could go p bolting in cliff cavern and get in the system via speedwell.

Failing that, JH (and the same again)?

Ride of the Valkyries is pretty awesome too.

Let me know if you guys make it t'derbyshire.

Illusion Pot (East Kingsdale) should be OK this weekend if you want to go to Yorkshire. We were there last Sunday and didn't have to bale the canal, which had about 10" of airspace. Illusion is do-able even in very wet weather e.g. Feb 2012 - but you may take an hour baling the canal. Once you get through its easy caving with some of the best formations in Yorkshire and you don't need a permit!

(we will be battling our way down Sell Gill Dry route this Sunday)
