a last minuite trip organised by sean [ thanks mate - it got me out of going shopping with dan ]

a big thanks to joel colk and ed coghalan for providing surveys and navigation advice

an absolutly bonkers day out - there was snow in  them there hills ` - and it was far warmer underground than on the surface

as it was our first time - we did a pretty basic touristy round trip - from the mallcleugh adsit - to the ballroom chamber [ found a guest book - and left a message ]  - and with minor distractions and interludes - returned via the small-cleugh flats to hard cross-cut

just to be different - i actually took my camera [ pics to follow ]

we kept pretty much t the sall-cleugh level [ with ocassional forrays into the flats above ]

our major interlude was a short abseil down the " hydraulic shaft " in elliots string - but due to having limmited rope and supplies - we only went down to the gallery at minus 10m to find that it didnt go anywahere

is it worth taking a long rope on the next trip ? to get to the bottom ????

we could have spant all week in there - the urge to just have a look down various winzes / rises and branches was over whelming

navigation only failed us once - somwehere between small-cleugh flats and the hard crosscut - i missed the ` dog leg ` - and we ended up facing a collapse

despite my reservations - we followed the " yob splatter " arrows - with an aggreement - that we would return and exit via the flatt cross cut - desite the extra walk - if we didnt get our bearings in the next 10 minuites - fortunatly after only 5 we had possitivly identified hard cross cut - and were on our way out

emerged into 100m visibility - we should have taken surface shots on the way in

but a amazing place - the entire region is simply riddled with explorable mines

but its miles away in the middle of nowhere - one for a summer camp trip ?????
