Sorry to be a pain ....

I am still having heaps of trouble logging onto www.ucet.org.uk

Without fail, both my home computer and my work computer (which is brand new as of a couple of weeks ago) return an error "Internet explorer cannot display this page".

This evening it happened 5 times before I could get on.

If I deliberately type a "made-up" website name I get a different message saying it doesn't exist.

I know JohnO suggesting linking straight to the forum but visitors to the site can't do that.

Any idea what might be causing it ?

Sorry

in a word no.

I'm not getting any problems here or when i access from elsewhere.

It could be a Explorer Specific issue.
It could be a DNS issue.

Next time you are having problems please can you immediately try accessing the website again using Google Chrome instead of Explorer - and determine if the problem is related to your browser, i.e. explorer, chrome, firefox etc or if its some kind of connection problem in your area.....

If you don't have chrome on your PC it only takes a couple of seconds to install from here:
https://www.google.com/chrome

Also, can you give me any other info - did the problem go away for a period and recently come back? Does it normally occur at certain times - i.e. when the site is busy? Any clue you can give me?

I'm testing it here on Chrome, Firefox and Explorer and all seem fine.

It may be that there is some kind of bug in some script that explorer doesn't like which might be related to the login module, youtube slider etc. If you're ok with it i'll liase with you and disable things one at a time over the next weeks or so and see if one of them is causing the problem.

Please try the explorer v's chrome test first though as this will be the most helpful test at this stage.

Out of interest I found that I could'nt log on. I tried using several different pages with the log on boxes and eventually I managed to do it. Weird?

It's always been the same Tim - it never changed from previously (ie. before the loading piccies).

I only mentioned it again because it appears to be getting worse in that I haveto click up to 5 times now.

I haven't downloaded chrome yet (now on office computer at work) but I can say that I don't have the problem with any other website.

I was hoping it would be a known problem with some published info from the developers.

Having a similar problem Tim, Think the problem im having is different though as it seems that the website went down for 30 mins yesterday?

Tim Watts

keep me posted peeps - it would be really helpful to know if its an Explorer specific issue or a network issue. Hence if someone who is having the problem could do the chrome test and feed back to me that would be awesome.

I've tried it about a zillion times now and i'm having no problem on latest explorer..... which isn't helping me because i can't fault find!!

No issues with either Firefox or Chrome here. IE is not going anywhere near my PC so I can't help you with that, and if you use Safari... well, the less said the better really... :P
You want me to go down *there*? On a bloody *rope*?

Well, yes - i must admit Explorer is not exactly the best by a long way. I've said it before that if you're not using Firefox or Chrome (Chrome being my current favorite) then you really should give them a try.

Tim,

I'm having serious problems with the photo viewer (I think) on the front page. It's causing my firefox browser to have a meltdown and give me this error;

A script on this page may be busy, or it may have stopped responding. You can stop the script now, or you can continue to see if the script will complete.

Script: chrome://global/content/bindings/scrollbox.xml:122

Soon as I stop the script it stops the viewer and my browser stops going nuts.

I fully appreciate that this might be something my end, as my browser needs a format, but I just wanted to check if anyone else is having a similar problem?

Ian A

I am ok now that Tim stripped some stuff of the front end - typical huh ?

joel - i've been playing with the photo browser quite over the last day or so - maybe you caught it at a bad time - i'll cease playing for a day or so - let me know if its still a problem.

I've only tested on explorer and chrome since playing - not got firefox to hand at the moment (work pc)

Still having problems with the photoviewer on my pc.

It works fine on my laptop, which is also running firefox. I will put it down to my pc Tim, it really does need a format!
