Just replied to your pm on facebook, will arrange a date for later on this week or next week, but by the sounds of things, if Claire has taught you, you should be fine.

Like Tim and Mike have said, they will get you through the trip. :)

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT

NB: Our official water safety officer (JohnO!) has previously suggested (insisted!) that it might be a good idea (is imperative) for people to wear a buoyancy aid on this trip.

Its not at all a bad idea based on having such a lot of metalwork hanging off you and considering that we'll be paddling across deep water in kiddies inflatable boats - piercing them no doubt on plenty of sharp slate and therefore sinking! I'd hate the thought of anyone struggling to undo their central mailon while steadily descending deeper and deeper into the depths due to the weight of their gear!

So, BRING A BUOYANCY AID! - If you don't have one then let me know asap because last time JohnO magic'd some up from somewhere to lend out! Drop me a message below to say if you either a) Have your own b) Have more than one of your own - ie. have one to lend or c) Need to borrow one!

Also, i've added a couple of suggested pickups (with times) to the original post at the top - can people please confirm where they want picking up from - Anywhere along the Pantymwyn, Denbigh kind of route!

 BRING A BUOYANCY AID!
You should DEFINATELY have one - this trip should not be undertaken without one. If you fall out of the dingy you will most likely drown even if you think you can swim. Seriously.

lacking in buoyancy aid, what type do I need to get? And no, if you saw me attempting to swim you'd be embarrassed to admit being part of the same species :silly:

John Oh

I do have some old BA's that can be borrowed, but they don't come with any guarantee of usefulness (i.e. it's up to you to check it and decided if you want to use it)  I also have a steel pulley I am happy to lend out (provided you replace it if you loose it or leave it  ) as I don't think I will be able to make it, I will probably get this kit to Tim.

Steel pulley?

Display of ignorance: Is it just the group as a whole that needs this, or does everyone?

I think I know the answer but as I have never done anything involving one, I'd just like to make sure. And no, I don't have one of my own!

I recommend the petzl tandem speed. Goes quite nice on the zipline :woohoo:

A cheap Petzl red alloy pully will do the job, but it's pretty much single use and it's quite diconcerting to see bits of aluminium flying off as you go along...

A tandem is better and a steel one will last but the cheaper ones work. It's horses for courses really.
In my opinion it is better if every body has their own pully or there will be a lot of hanging around (no pun intended   )
I'm a very busy person

Hi,

Im interested- some SRT experience and my own kit and have gained confidence doing variousness in Cwmorthin and other places with Labrat - who thinks I'm OK to do CRTT providing I'm not left entirely to my own devices.... If this is gonna be a fast paced trip or with lots of technicalities I'll save it for another time as will need to put in leave to cover the previous day's shift which ends in the small hours of the Sunday. Im happy going up & down ropes and with deviations and have done the via ferrata thing along the walk boards and other horizontalness within the same chamber at Cwmorthin, but not confident to do knot passes without at least some further instruction

I will be relying on own transport - if its *that* far from the road to walk then said transport will be capable of following Tims....

Coming up from South Wales or possibly Bristol if this helps with anyone elses transport logistics
DON'T WORRY PHIL you'll be fine it's not that big a deal and there will probably be a shit load of peeps going so don't worry just enjoy.
im more worried about farty mart going
and jus what do you mean by that Leachy? :P
