Tim,

I have received several emails from people (over a shortish period)telling me they cannot get approval for the website.

Whilst I realised this was probably because they need you to click a button or something - it also appears they cannot "see" the forum until they are registered.

Have you got it in some kind of stealth mode so no one can see it unless they actually register ?

Also, do you "need" to approve every user joining ?   I know there is a risk of spam bots but they are easy enough to remove

Nupe, ANYONE can read the public part of forum. Test it yourself, press the logout button on the bottom left (Under the online users list) and you'll effectively become joe-public and you'll still be able to access the public forums. Has always been the case, never changed.

Regarding the approval thing - I've had it on/off a number of times. I put it on a couple of weeks ago to prevent a couple of undesirables from work creating accounts. I was getting tired of continually banning them and removing posts. Only got myself to blame as i 'fraped' them and they are getting revenge. I've put it back to auto-approval again just now.
