why is everybody after a ba would you put one on if you went for a swim in a lake, it's only cold:woohoo: water. just put a wet suit on or a mankeeni if your name is joel

It's basic safety kit, lakes people swim in generally aren't under ground and have sun to warm them so will be around 14-15degc at this time of year (still cold), the water in the spar mine I expect will be 10degc or less, not that many people actually swim in them so have no experience of the cold and not everyone will have a wetsuit. You are planning on taking in inflatables so you will be further away from the dry land, most of the spar mine has very steep sides which would be impossible to climb out of and there is a good change of your lamp failing if you fall in.  

Maybe next time you climb the Old Man you should consider leaving your rope at home :sick:

A little safety is not hard to put in place, explaining why someone didn't come home is!
