Hi All

Here’s the details for this weeks trip

Location :  Ogof Cefn Y Gist Cave

Meet Place : Meet at the layby on World's end (google link - https://www.google.com/maps/@53.0221367,-3.1452379,0a,90y,351.54h,81.39t/data=!3m4!1e1!3m2!1sST8qn_0AXlrZBkTV5KEHzg!2e0?utm_source=mstt_0)

Meet Date : Thursday 12th September 2019

Meet Time : 6.45pm

Requirements : Wellies, overalls, helmet, lamp â€" kneepads a good idea if you have them.

Notes: Tom has kindly offered to lead a trip around this cave. It’s not a massive cave but not one we’ve done before and interesting nonetheless. There’s no SRT but it can get muddy so change of clothes a good idea.

It would be really handy to know if you are coming (no worries if you aren’t or don’t know).

Thanks

Vikki

Wirral Caving Group did a trip here (I did it twice) in 2011 see:

http://www.wirralcavinggroup.org.uk/trips/cefnygist.html

Binks passage is quite pretty and worth the effort, but the entrance series is low and wet so you WILL need a full change of clothes. As noted in my description don't leave anything valuable on the ledges of the main passage as they will fall off into inaccessible areas! The entrance series is a bit unstable so try not to press on the walls and ceiling!

The water that sinks here reappears in Ogof Llyn Du (Ragman passage) in Minera quarry, hence the interest in this cave as it must lead to an extensive set of passages. Unfortunately the limestone is weak and when NWCC tried to expand the passage downward with s lot of Dr Nobel's linctus it brought the roof down :-)
Binks passage slopes up towards the surface so a bit of digging would provide easier access (or a through trip) - my guess is that this hasn't been done to protect the formations.

This is a rarely visited cave!

Not sure if I will be out this week - up in Scotland at present...

Well this hole won't dig itself  and winter is coming.
We don't want to lose the whole dig when the weather comes in.

So nobody has posted anything up about this trip.
Did it not happen or was it so bad that people are too traumatised to mention it ever again?

I'm a very busy person
