I'm loosely planning a trip to Dinas Silica Mine on 23rd March and planning on visiting Ystrad Einion copper mine on 24th March.

Anyone interested?

Once I've got an idea of numbers I'll look at the accommodation options.  Frustratingly, the bunk house near the silica mine is already booked up every weekend.

I don't know a great deal about either place but the pictures look nice.

The silica mine has old machines and if the mine doesn't take long to do, there are nice walks taking in waterfalls and general prettinesses.

Ystrad Einion is small but does have one of two remaining in situ underground waterwheels in the UK (that is reason enough to go surely)

The return journey from Ystrad Einion back to North Wales is about 2 hours.

Both trips suitable for all members.  No SRT required.  I'll be driving and can take 3 people plus gear.

There are several caving huts near Dinas if you wanted...

Cheers Les,

Don't think I'm too popular with swcc but will look at the others depending on numbers. Do you fancy it?

Not sure what I'm doing at the moment but it could be a plan. I'll let you know...

I see that Dinas is in the south of Wales and it is a long drive down from Preston where I will be working the Friday night.  Can still make it for the Saturday afternoon and do a trip on the Sunday.

Just Googled the Croydon Hut and I go with it.  It's only 100m from the New Inn.

Well at least if you fall over after getting slaughtered, we'll only have to carry you 98.5m back to the hut then  :S

I think that depends on which way he falls. You might have to carry him 101.5m...  :silly:

Then surely he would be the pub's responsibility if that was to happen

That's a very good point...
You could argue on that basis that unless he fell through the gate of the Croydon, he's the Highway Authority's problem...

But if he fell when nobody was watching would he make a noise?
