Another really splendid trip.  Many thanks to Captn Mike and Paul Boyd for guiding and helping us all through the route, and especially for taking Bella through to the top of the big incline.  Bella said it was the best trip she has ever done!  Chris also said it was the best cave he has done so far.  Badger seemed also quite elated when he emerged from underground and wanted to dive immediately into Poachers for a second dose.

We had a good time at the White Horse after the trip with JO, JN, Chris, Bella and Ness.  We also had a good chat with other people in the bar - who now seem to be getting more used to us!  One guy (called Garreth I think) is very keen to come along on at least a taster trip.  He actually owns the land immediately behind the Cilcain Bridge Car Park, and most of the way up to Loggerheads.  He says that there are lots of holes on his land, some take in water, some you can crawl into.  He was asking about the caves on the left slope of the Devil's Gorge.  Do they go anywhere?

I suggested he joins us at Cilcain Car Park next Thursday for the Sledgehammer trip.

Hi John

I am under the impression that all the land from the car park to Devils Gorge & beyond is owned by Lloyds, managed by Strutt & Parker but now also under the watchful 'managemant' of Countryside Sevices and Flintshire CC.
I think Gareth owns the land on the other side of the river although I'm sure someone will corrct me on this.
A phone call can confirm this which I'll do if you want.
If the cave he mentions in the side of Devils gorge is the one at the top of the gorge then it goes nowhere. Just about 20 yds to a shaft thet is about 20ft deep at the side of the path.
At the moment the water from the Alyn sinks into a hole below Devils gorge.
I suggested somewhere that it may be possible that this may be linked to Hesp Alyn possibly via Murphys Pot.
IF we could define the height at the end of OHA that might give some indication which way to go!

Hi Frank,
I suggest we don't question Gareth any further until he comes to us - by way of joining a trip underground.  We need to guarantee his confidence in us and the underworld.  What would be good is to remind him that we will be meeting on Thursday and that he is most welcome to join us.  We can provide helmet lights etc.  All he needs is some old clothes that can get a bit muddy.

I guessed he is a farmer - was I right?
