If I'm reading this right...

http://www.honeywellanalytics.com/Technical%20Library/AP/Impact%20Pro/Manuals
/Impact%20Manual%20-%20Issue%203_EN.pdf

it looks like this unit is reading % of LEL, so I should be happy at anything 80% or below.

I know that 20.9% is normal, and anything under will have an effect. If I'm not on ropes, like I said, I'm not too worried about slightly lower levels. If it hits under 17% I'll be very cautious, and at 15%, I'm outta there, albeit at a measured pace. Numbers are just a guide though, and any "dodgy" physical responses override any level reading though, so if it feels "wrong", yet the instrument is indicating it's "acceptable" then I'm inclined to just leave the place alone, full stop.

ribble enviro

do exactly what it says on the tin ........ err website

yes - you may gasp when the invoice arrives

but if you are going to the trouble of having gas detection as a saftey warning in mines etc - it fooking has to work , no iffs , buts or approximations

any thing else is simply ballast that might msake you feel good - but it wont actually help - might as well take half a house brick and hope

you mean like when we took 2 into that coal mine, both of which were beeping and whaling at us, and all we kept doing was hitting the silance button.

Ali Wiseman

Ribble don't appear to deal with these detectors.

I might just stump up for the calibration kit, seems less of a faff, and cheaper in the long run, as it looks to be almost £100 including postage and VAT for a calibration.

How much? I've not put much into the detectors (yet), so I can ditch these if needed. Any ideas on service intervals, cartridge costs etc?

I presume you know I want a 4gas?

not a clue on calabration intervals and stuff, the most popular one we sell is the crowcon tetra 3, the RRP is about £350 but in reality staff can buy them for a LOT less

we also do a few cheaper ones, but no idea what they retail at or what the staff discount on them is yet.

the throw away single gas units cost about £50 to us

Its a bit worrying all this talk of bad air, should the club not invest in a couple of good quality ones and keep them calibrated, after the initial out lay it may only cost us a couple of quid a year to keep them in good condition.

I would pay an extra one off fee to get a couple.

If You can get me a price, I'm interested. Probably about May-ish though, depending on the price. I went for the route with the used ones, as I could do one at a time, but I had figured on £100 for a cartridge, and £35 for a calibration. It looks more like £240 for those now, so a new unit is more appealing.

to be honest, those people whoare most likely to be treading new ground allready have access to them.

obviously i have no issue with the club buying them should someone feel we need them, butidont see a great deal of use for one, think i've only done 3 trips where we felt we needed to take one

Ali Wiseman

The club is more than welcome to borrow mine John. I would think other members have them too, and are happy to lend them to the club.

Dan - £170 sounds good. Let me round up some beer tokens, and I'll give You a shout.

i have had the need for gas detector at least 6 times in the last 3 months as im involved in looking for old coal workings around wrexham ,but the price of them is a bit steep to say the least , i think i will get a canarie instead  :silly:

tetra 3 isn't a quad gas so ain't no good for what we need 'em for. :-(

I 'think' the club has 3 quad gas meters of its own - i 'think' Mikes got 'em.

I've got one (well two but ones goosed and i won't be paying to repair it).

i know others also have their own.

cal gas is cheap enough to keep on top of calibrations. By all rights they should be 'bump' tested each time they are turned on.

Most importantly make sure you turn them on in a known fresh air environment because they self ZERO i.e. to 20.9% O2 and zero everything else EVERYTIME you turn them on.
