Hi peeps, well I'm back from Greece and it would seem I'm sorting out the Xmas bash this year :-/

From speaking to members it would seem a local bash would be preferred as the majority wouldn't be able to make the mendips (sorry labrat - although I do think another mendips trip is due).

For now it would seem that the dates proposed so far are either the 1st or 8th of December.... can I have everyone's thoughts on what suits the majority.........

Just go for it! If you want a band let me know asap. If I do, venue needs to suit six piece. If you do it would need to be 1st or 8th.

The first of December suits Bella and me.
We also volunteer for any help with preparations, laying tables, cutting veg etc.
I'm sure Bella could scrub up and become an excellent waitress.

Hi All,

After speaking to some of you at the summer ucet party we've decided on a date for the Xmas party!

Sooooo....this years Xmas party will be on Saturday 1st December!

So far there have been a few suggestions about where to have the party...so can I have some input on the following please or some more suggestions.....

Suggestion One: Springfield Hotel - £23.95 - 3 course meal and 80's disco

Suggestion Two: Britannia Inn/Crooked Horn Inn/Similar - Price TBC - sit down meal/buffet with disco

Please give me some feedback and suggestions on what you all want, eg: budget? fancy dress? sit down meal/buffet?

Speak now or forever hold your peace :-p

I'm easy, the ONLY thing i ask is that there is affordable accomadation nearby. i dont mind traveloge type prices, but i aint paying £70 to stay in a B+B.

Other than that, i'm not too arsed where it is as long as theres somewhere to buy a pint from.

But on a side note, which ever pub puts up with everyone every thursday all year, turning up in caving gear and chatting shit too loudly, well IMO they should get the christmas party, after all, i think it's only fair they get peoples money rarther than spending it somewhere else.

JMO like, have it where ever people want, i just think you should look after the people who put upwith us.

On Mad-Dan's criteria it should be the Glan.  My original suggestion was that with Joel's skills as a chef and Vikki's experience in catering supllies we could do it DIY at the Glan or the hall behind the White Horse in Cilcain.

I really did not think much of the food at the Brit last year.

Has anyone any experience of the food at Springfield.  We used to collect the oil there years ago and it was crap.

There's a travelodge that's a few mins away on the A55, Halkyn, last year was about £30

This is SO FRUSTRATING>>>>
I have written three postings on this topic in the last 20 minutes that have crashed when I submit.

Yes, within 5 mins by car/taxi at most

I will try again....

I don't agree with the idea that we should support the place that 'puts up with us'.
That is not an accurate assessment of the state of the market at the moment. ANY pub would put up with us gladly. They are all desperate for trade. People are just not going to pubs theses days. When i go round collecting oil I see just how most places are struggling. Many cut on quality to survive. In my view we should not be sponsoring this degradation of food quality.

My hope is that Vikki will ensure that we get a better quality meal than the one we were served last year at the Brit. I am sure Vikki knows what good quality means.

I may not have the same taste in beer as other UCET members, but I have praised before the range of real ales servied at the White Horse in Cilcain. I have not tried their food yet.
