As I'm teaching my kids how to srt, these are ideal to use for descending, as you can set the decent speed, so if everything goes wrong, they will still make it down  without broken legs

 double roping will be cheaper, effecivly top roping but he is still in full control

Yeh, I do that now, I just think if he was on a single rope it would boost his confidenceplus its something I don't own
