I know two other club members who would be able to offer training (three if one comes out of his hiding hole on the Wirral) ... nudge nudge, wink wink, say no more
Budgie has already asked me to cover one of the training sessions. Tim Davies has just done his level 1 IRATA so i know that he would be happy to help too.

By all means, if any member wants to help out or have a go at training, get on the phone to Budgie.

Joe. Leave it with me and will do my best to sort something else out. There are other members that are quite capable of teaching SRT that may be able to help.

'little jow: I wouldn't give up so easy'

It's not giving up, it is more that I don't want to put anyone out any more since someone has organised something that I can't commit to.

Cheers Joel. Just wondering (and I don't know how beginners begin usually!), does the club run SRT taster sessions? there may be members of the club that are not sure if they want to commit to a bunch of training, but want to give it a go in a safe, dry, well lit environment.

By the way, it is great to be in such a constructive club/forum.

its not unheard of we done various things in the past - but in reality, the first time you go and do the training it is - in effect a taster - if you don't like it (I'm sure you will though) then theres no commitment to carry on. :woohoo:

Like Tim has said, Many members go to the SRT training sessions as a taster anyway and see what develops after that. :)

Tim Watts

that said - i'm going for a little play in the spar mine with some ropes tonight so if anyone want a bit of a taster...... see post in public trips and events

next time you are over this way give me a nudge and i'll dangle on a rope. hoss has a big tree in his garden does'nt he

Thank im for the open invitation to dangle in Hendre.
I can't come this evening because I am otherwise tied up.

Cheers Mike!

I know hoss has done SRT off his tree in the past, but i've had trouble trusting him since he told me to stand next to a muddy puddle so him and his mate could ride through on their bikes and splash me. Big brothers can be arseholes!

Love ya though hoss!

but that was 20 years ago.
i'll run through it with you if you don't trust big bro.(don't blame you really)

I don't mean it really. I trust my bro completely and look forward to dangling off his tree soon.

Hi all
I will take all you SRT newbys out in the cave enviroment once you have had the initial practice with budgie, but be warned i pull no punches if i don,t think you will make the grade i will say so you must be confident in your equipment and in your self. SRT is induvidual when out on a rope you are on your own. its not like your walking caving trips were you help each other to push and pull, you need to know at the out set if you get this wrong you will be putting yourself and you fellow cavers at risk. take note SRT Teams do not carry extra ropes to get you rescued if you hang up, so i hope you will understand if i say sorry you will not make the grade, I will
now rig up the spar mine again ready to take you all the ratio is 3 to 1 any more on the day i will ask another SRT caver who will be a competent person.
