John,

Many caving clubs have sole access rights to caves and in many cases there are conditions attached which are either dictated by the landowner or arbitrarily imposed by the club(s).

The whole matter is contentious and political and there is very little consesus within the caving community as to the merits, the rights and the wrongs.

You are right that ODB is more tightly controlled than other caves you have so far visited but there are a great many more that are similarly controlled.

I'll be happy enough to bring a ladder and meet at Poachers (well meet at the carpark by cilcain bridge).

To be honest i'm going to be pretty goosed after this trip offshore, will be pretty much coming straight from the airport and have worked 22 16-18hours days on the run so a nice amble into poachers would be just what the doctor ordered as opposed to dragging my fat arse up out of North Henblas!

Is ODB a mine or a cave?
If I join Tim and others at Poachers this week, then will UCET be visiting ODB again in the next 12 - 18 months?

It is a cave and it is very probable the club will be invited to return in the next 12-18 months.

MarC is a member of both clubs and a little tap on his shoulder can usually make it happen :)

All being well there will be another trip to Poachers led by Tim Watts (subject to flights from the North Sea), with me, Joel, and Newbie. Anyone lese is welcome to come to the Cilcain Bridge car park at 7.00pm.  The later time is to alow leway for Tim's arrival.  I'm sure everyone knows that Poacher's involves just a slight squeeze into the entrance hole, then an electron ladder to a relatively flat floor.  Most of the passage was designed by nature for easy human access, but there are a few places where you have to bend over a bit.  There is also a little river to wade through. Lots of interesting formations to see - even a bit of a mine.
