Good Evening All,

Next Thursday's trip will be to Talargoch Mine visiting the older workings under Graig Fawr. This trip is open to all and considered suitable for novices, there is also optional S.R.T so bring your kit for that option.

History
1303-First documentary evidence of mining in the area. Four German miners paid to search for copper ore (probably on Graig Fawr) but found only a small quantity of lead.

1632-Apparently next record of mining. Mining rights of Carrog Ffaylon (now Graig Fawr) leased to Sir John Conway of Bodrhyddan Hall and Robert Davies for 7 years: “a work was sett up and payeth to the profitt of the miners many hundreds of pounds beside what Sir john gott”

Talargoch was one of the most productive mines in Flintshire. It has produced minerals such as copper, silver and calamine, but it is most famous as a producer of lead ore, and from the 1860s, zinc ore. It is likely to have been worked since Roman times, but the evidence merely suggests, not confirms this. (credit: http://www.cambrianmines.co.uk/flintshireleadmining/11-talargoch-mine.html)

Within the mine if your explorer side and climbing side comes out you will witness some nice minerals and even evidence of fire setting.

Plan on being there - no excuse not to since it’s the closest trip to home in a while.

I may bring a friend who lives 5 minutes away as well

Hellooo! How long do you envisage the trip with last? We've not joined one of these before as we are based in London but we'll be in Blaenau Ffestiniog for the week so would be cool to finally make it and meet some of you!
Thanks

Hi Silvia

The trip shouldn't really take any longer than 2 hours
