Walk
Western Menai Straits

Distance
12 Miles Approx.

Elevation
50m

Time
5+ Hours approx

Parking
Park Moel-y-Don on Anglesey (Grid Ref SH 519 678) This is at the end of a Minor road off the A4080 as you come off the Menai Bridge (heading West) and it right by the waters edge. Sufficient parking for 5 cars in free parking bays.

Walk Description
Follow the track back up from where you parked and take the first left â€" it is signposted as the North Wales Coastal Path.

Follow until you see a waymarker on your left heading towards the straits along side a field and you will quickly find yourself on the beach. Follow for around ¾ of a mile and you will see a path heading up and right away from the beach â€" follow this through a wooded track, past a high walled house and spot the waymarker on the left opposite a stud.

Take this turn across the field (bearing right) and follow a series of waymarked gates all in a long straight line through numerous fields until you pop back onto the beach.

You will quickly pick up a road along the promenade where you will pass a chocolate farm and the Anglesey Sea Zoo. Keep going past these and past the Old Mermaid Inn and back onto the beach beyond. You will now have a splendid view of Caernarfon Castle on the opposite side of the Strait.

Keeping on the beach you will see a hidden turn on the right â€" take this up to a farm and turn RIGHT at the stile (the waymarker suggests only left but your path is RIGHT). You will quickly see a hidden stile on the right with a waymarker going through the farm itself â€" follow this and keep going through the fields (bearing right at a gate with no marker to follow the fence line where you will find it within 50 yards).

Stay true to the waymarkers and you will be taken back through the otherside of the chocolate farm and Anglesey Sea Zoo and you will pop out onto a lane which will take you to the village of Brynsciensyn. Pass through this village heading out on the A4080 and take the first right lane back towards the straits. After a few hundred yards turn right and follow the waymarked lane all the way back to your car.
