Annoying chime

I have, for the past few weeks been hearing a loud random chime on my pc. It has taken me a long time to track this down but at last I have discovered that it is a notification noise that appears to be played every time somebody logs into the UCET chat. I think it is the chat bit.
I believe people are automatically logged into chat when they log onto the site.

I could be entirely wrong on this but it seems to coincide with a new name appearing in the online users list in the bottom right corner of the window. It is also the sound I hear when I click on the "Test Audio" link in chat settings.

If this is the case then how can I turn it down (it is very loud) or turn it off (without losing any other functionality?

Your help will be appreciated as it has been driving me scatty.

How odd can a website be ...

I didn't even know we have a "chat" and I don't get any chimes.

Perhaps "they" are watching you

And, just because you are paranoid - it doesn't mean they AREN'T out to get you

yes we have a chat and yes it does chime.

u get the chat by clicking on online users (grey bar right at the bottom of the screen). I haven't worked out to to control the chime! I may be changing the chat software soon as i'm not happy with the way it works when viewing from iphone/android (the chat bar sticks in the middle of the screen rather than at the bottom).

I reckon I've solved it. I clicked on "Go off line" in the chat window. No chime. All good. B)

yer agreed - but thet means you're no-longer "online" to use the chat function - fine if thats what u want but i'd like to see an option for muting the chime and remaining online.

Me too, but it is quite a loud and distracting chime. The other sounds on my PC are much more muted and if I lower the sound on my PC then the rest are too quiet.

I don't know if there is somewhere on my machine to change the chime or lower the volume of just that one sound but I haven't found it yet. Going offline is a stopgap for now though.

les,

just wondering, how come you are ALWAYS logged into the site - you just leave it on all of the time? You love us all that much?????!!!!!

My computer is on all the time. I used to use it to back up the BCA's website but since we moved servers I haven't changed the parameters so currently don't. But old habits die hard and the machine stays on. I am permanently logged into several sites, UCET, Facebook, UK Caving, etc...

Perhaps I need to get a life.

It is nice to keep up on what is going on though.
