I got this when i was first trying to learn to abseil.

it's well scratched but hasnt actually had that much use, it kind of works like a stop, but it locks if you let go of the handle or squeeze it right in, to move you have to find the sweet spot in the middle.

It's awesome to build up confidance, and has rigging diagram on both sides (for left and right handed people) but i wouldn't recomend it for a big technical multi pitch trip.

some blerb from here - http://www.safelincs.co.uk/anthron-self-braking-descent-device-with-anti-panic/?fGB=true&gclid=CPLE-LLi47UCFUvHtAodWGIAoA

The Anthron DSD 30 self braking descender features an anti-panic function which allows a safe descent when the correct pressure is applied, but will halt the descent if too little or too much pressure is applied. This protects the user if they panic and squeeze too hard or completely let go of the device.
ʉۢAnodised aluminium construction
ʉۢBuilt-in anti-panic function
ʉۢSuitable for use as part of an evacuation kit
ʉۢConforming to EN 341 Class A and EN 12841 Class B
ʉۢCE marked

theres one on ebay at £50 and a new one at £110

i dont think they are worth that, so £25 and it's yours.

I'll point Turbo this way... LMFAO... he'll kill me.

I have one, and on clean ropes, it's an awesome descender. Not so on muddy, stiff ropes unless You rig it in Single Stop (Not recommended for beginners!)

Perfect to learn on as You really can't cock it up. It won't move at all if You thread it wrong, and if You panic and either squeeze or grab, it locks.

Someone, buy it, before I do, I don't need another one, £25 is pretty decent for it.
You want me to go down *there*? On a bloody *rope*?

Is that an actual fact? i've never tried, I cant actually work out how you would thread it any way but the way it shows.

Iestyn, do you actually want it?

Iestyn Rhys Pritchard

Yes please! I tend to squeeze the stop handle when I panic, which isn't really a problem unless I let go of the rope
I'll bring the cash next time I see you

You can rig it "upside down". It doesnt move. Tried it both accidwntly and deliberately.

Single stop is... Fast... On a clean rope. You can heat it up really nicely.

no worries, as i say, it's great on simple single pitch decents, i wouldnt want to do a multi pitch trip with one, well i did yesterday as this is what i used, but it's not ideal.

Taking up slack is an acquired skill with it.

I'm planning on using it for big abseils off stuff I shouldn't be abesiling off. So it should be ideal  :)

Here you go Iestyn, a decent review of it.

Don't try to rig it in single stop unless You have someone with You that knows it, preferably on Belay, and deffo not on clean rope... as said, it goes nice 'n fast like that.

Steve's problem was that it was an old rope on the CRTT, and it wouldn't move. I've had the same at Fferna, and had to bounce down the rope. Know it's limitations though, and it's a great descender, and will do you proud.
