Hi,

Myself and Sas will be on holiday in North Wales (staying near Rhyl) from Monday 18th to Friday 22nd June.  We're wondering if anyone would be able to show us around a cave or two?  Would need to be Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday ideally daytime (doesn't matter which day).  Can anyone help?  We're both keen cavers down South and members of WCC (Les Williams suggested someone on here might be able to help).

Cheers

Hi Tim,

I am quite sure somebody will - I should be able to come along myself ;)

Would you prefer a cave or a mine ?

If you prefer a cave the choices are fairly limited so a trip is easy.

If you prefer a mine, any preference with slate, metal or other ?

Also ... which of the three days is best for you (so we can make a definate arrangement) ?

:)

Hi Ian,

Many thanks for the offer.  How about Wednesday 20th June?  If you'd rather the Thursday though just say as it doesn't really make any difference to us.

Would prefer caves to mines and we enjoy the pretties as much as the sporting aspect.  Being predominantly Mendip cavers we're very used to short caves.  Again due to the nature of the caves down here we've not done much srt (ie can go up and down a bit of string on a single pitch, but that's it) however are more than comfortable with wet, awkward & ladders!

Cheers

Hi Tim,

Weds is cooooolies ;)

A cave is also no problem BUT there are no "pretties" in North Wales. (well, there's one).

I would suggest Poacher's cave and there is a video of it in the video section of this forum if you want to take a peep. (or don't if you want to preserve the mystery).

There will be one electron ladder (12 foot pitch) but no other equipment is needed. You WILL get wet and muddy (spare clothes are essential). You will be underground for about 3 hours to see it all. (possibly more if the numbers exceed 6)

Any thoughts as to what time you want to start and I'll shove a thread up to see if anyone else wants to tag along too ?

:)

Hi Ian,

No worries about the pretties - I started and still from time to time cave on Portland which basically has no pretties at all so used to that.  Poachers sounds great - enjoyed the video.  Wet, muddy and 12ft ladder sounds perfect.  3hrs is fine too, we typically aim for 2 to 6 hour trips depending on how lazy we're feeling!

Don't mind at all regarding time, does 10:00 ish sound ok?

Yep - that's great - I'll stick a thread up ;)

.... Now I have to figure out how to direct you to the meet location ....

Was just looking at that myself.  Have the OS map.  From the description on the very helpful website about North Wales caves it sounds like there is a car park somewhere near the bridge over the river between Cilcain and Pont-newydd.  Would that be the meeting place and is the car park obvious if we find the bridge?

Cheers

Yep thats great.  Seeing the bridge and parking space certainly help - what would we do with out google!

See you at 10am on 20th then.  We should probably exchange mobile numbers in case of a problem.  I'm guessing its possible to send private messages on here somehow?  Not worked that one out yet!

I have stuck another thread up in the trips section now too to see if anyone else would like to pop along. I expect very few if any as, no doubt, most will be working :side:

I will try and come along too.  But remember that mobiles don't seem to work in the deep river valley.
