UCET Trip Advisor 24th April 2025- Poachers Cave

Hello all,

Here are the details for our next Thursday trip:

This week we will be heading to Poachers Cave/ Ogof Hen Ffynhonnau in Cilcain. Thought to be over 500,00 years old, the cave is full of interesting passages and formations, including the 'big boss' chandelier chamber, a very rare iscosceles passage, and much more

The trip is ideal as an introduction to caving for anyone interested in giving it a go. You will get muddy and wet. Please let us know in advance if you need to borrow any equipment.

Location : Poachers cave (ogof hen ffynhonnau)
Meet Place : Cilcain bridge
Meet Date : 24/04/25
Meet Time : 18:30 - 18.45
Suitability : Novice. Perfect first caving trip for beginners.
Requirements : Wellies, overalls, helmet, lamp, gloves, optional belt or harness for short entrance lifeline. Any equipment can be borrowed from the club if needed.

Website Issues / Latest update
Last post by Dave Tyson - Apr 18, 2025, 06:05 PM
I have updated the test forum (ucet.anduin.org.uk) to add a front page and menu items for the 'old forum' and 'contact the UCET team'

There is a new private board 'UCET Shop' which will give a single point for purchases of lamps, clothing, mugs and stickers etc.

30 UCET members have logged on the new forum after using the 'forgotten password link' - there are still a load of you that haven't and I strongly recommend you do ASAP.

Trying to reconcile the registered UCET member list with the forum is a bit hit & miss so if you are a UCET member but cannot see the UCET private boards then email or PM me and I will fix it.

The current forum snapshot is about a month out of date - I will be loading the latest posts in the next few days. Once this is done and assuming there are no problems I hope to have a test of the new forum on the current server next weekend.

This means that the UCET website and forum may be offline from all day on 26th April and may run over to 27th April

1) If everything works OK then the new website will stay live. Those of you who have logged in to the test site will find you should be able to login to the 'new site' (but watch out of you have a password manager and have chosen a different password to that on the old site)

If you go through the 'forgotten password'  and nothing turns up (check spam) then you probably haven't updated your email on the forum and will have to contact me.

I will be taking the test forum offline.

2) if it all goes pear shaped then the old forum will be back while I investigate!

Cheers,
Dave

In depths below, where darkness reigns
United Cave Exploration Team sustains
A bond of thrill, a shared delight
In caverns vast, where adventure takes flight

With helmets lit, and hearts aflame
You venture forth, into the unknown game
Through narrow passages, and chambers wide
You explore the secrets, deep inside

Your team, a family, strong and true
United in purpose, through and through
You face the challenges, with skill and might
And uncover wonders, in the dark of night

So here's to the United Cave Exploration Team
May your expeditions, be filled with dream
May your discoveries, be a treasure rare
And your camaraderie, forever be there.
