Yeah it was because it was open for non members to join us, so I've moved it to public

UCET Trip Advisor Thursday 22nd May

Hello all,

Here are the details for our next Thursday evening trip;

Hendre Spar mine
IMPORTANT - NO Social Media photos are to be shared from the land accessing the mine or of inside the mine. Please only circulate photos taken, in the PRIVATE areas of the forum and through Whatsapp community only

There are 3 options for this weeks trip:

1) SRT / rigging practice- I believe Charlie will be practicing rigging on two pitches near the entrance so there is the option to practice SRT / rigging skills

2) Help with some maintenance- Gaz is going to be making the entrance shaft more secure, and any volunteers who'd like to help are greatly appreciated

3) Walkabout- Mary will be leading a walkabout trip in the mine. Suitable as a first trip for anyone interested in giving it a go

Location : Hendre Spar mine
Meet Place : Hendre, near the Royal Oak- either in small carpark opposite or near the road
Link to Parking: maps.app.goo.gl/T4RRLnFFGQqBz7gH6
Meet Date : 22nd May
Meet Time : 18:30pm - 18:45pm
Suitability : Novice (walkabout), SRT competency (if doing SRT)
Requirements : Overalls, Helmet, Lamp, change of clothes, full SRT kit (optional)

Website Issues / Email notifications now workin...
Last post by admin - May 12, 2025, 09:46 AM
HostPapa, the ucet web provider, got back in touch about a ticket I raised about non-delivery of mail and the problem has been sorted.

Hopefully mails from the server (forgotten passwords, notifications of private messages and watched topics etc.) should now appear in your mailboxes and with a lot of luck will now not be marked as spam.

Sorry for the delayed reply, I will keep an eye on both for some future trips. I'm not sure if the guys I know have been memebers of ucet, i know one member though, he said he is one of the founders of UCET..Budgie he goes by. I'm actually his boss lol! But yeah I will drop an email to membership shortly and hopefully I should see you underground soon enough.

Thanks for your reply though 👍

Website Issues / Tedious spammers - updated
Last post by admin - May 09, 2025, 11:43 PM
I have noticed a few 'interesting' new users, including one today posting spammy advertising. They got short shrift from me, with the topic deleted and their username as well.

If any of the other admins spot stuff like this - just delete the topic and the user. Don't bother just banning them - that just clutters up the membership list with rubbish!

Spotted another spammer today (14/05/25). I had just logged on and noticed someone registering. They then posted spam and logged out. Spam and username deleted - I think they lasted all of 5 minutes!

One thing I do notice is new users seem to register and have a website address in their profile. They don't do anything like posting to threads and never login again. I think they hope that google/bing/etc indexing this site will pick up the link - effectively free advertising. While this used to work about 15 years ago, google et al got wise to link farms being used to push sites up in the search results and so stopped doing it.  I my spare and happy moments I will run a SQL query on the members table picking out those who list a website, who haven't posted and haven't logged on since registration. They might be eligible for some 'cleaning out'

I could make all new registrations subject to admin approval. I am reluctant to do this as it means more work for admins and it may put off curious users who might be interested in a bit more info but may not want to wait for approval before they post. It would certainly put off spammers!
