Brief note to say hi. I met Tim last year at Rhydymwyn but have only just got round to joining the bulletin board (UCET next when I track down current membership info).
Many years ago I enjoyed wandering hillsides, caves and mines...got older and continued the same but a little more seriously. For various reasons this activity stopped.
Recently I've started visiting a few mines again - walkable ones, not crawling on my (too ample) belly. I've not done any roped climbing for 30+ years and never did much that would really qualify as SRT ...maybe it's time to start!
Based in the NW.
Iain
If you met Tim and you are still keen to go caving you must be properly "hard core" B) B) B)
Howdy Doody and welcome to the Forum ....
We are out every Thursday night. Sometimes it's published here and sometimes in the private members area - you are welcome to come on any trip (give us a nudge here if you can't see the trip)
:)
Ian
Thanks for the welcome Ian. I met Tim above ground (Valley Works) not underground. Suspect he wanted to fly a quadcopter in the tunnels but he didn't admit to that ;-)
I also enjoy your videos (particularly as you don't fill them with carp music at a stupid volume).
Membership form on here is somewhat old - details still applicable?
Are you free this Thursday?
Hi Iain,
The contact details have just been updated (we just had our AGM) and are correct.
Membership is pro-rata for the year (£20 subs and £17 insurance) but done in quarters (so if you joined today, for instance, you would only need to stump up 3/4 of all that).
You need to email the secretary (his details are on the contact page) and he'll sort it all out for you.
In the meantime, as Ant posted above, (he is the trip organiser), you are welcome to come along.
:)
Ian
Righto, I'll sort out some messenging this week. Presume I don't need to pay for BCA insurance if I already have that?
Have I met Ant....? SubBrit trip perhaps.......
Thursday - no idea...depends what time I get back to civilisation.
No you will not have met me.
You only need to pay your insurance once. Per year.
Meets are approx 6:30 start. Will put a nice dry walk in walk out (excluding ladders). If you are free.

If Doug weld's the gearbox before Thursday we will be taking it back down (again) and putting it back together again.got quite a few ladders in today and might get some more in on Thursday if we get enough peeps on the trip

Right...a different Cave Ant then ;-)
This is what I thought and it does show as separate on your form...some groups don't show it like that though.
LOL. Oddly enough there are two* things that scare me...ladders and cave diving. Not bothered about height but ladders are horrible. Recent visit to a chalk mine meant about 80 foot ladder climb on the way out. New and very secure ladder but I still hated it.
I'll not know until later in the week whether I can get back on thursday so whilst I appreciate the consideration if there are other things the group need to do then organise the meet around that.
*far more than two but the others all involve other people's stupidity so don't count.
Hi Iain,
Welcome to the forum. I'm more than happy to take you somewhere that doesn't involve ladders if you're free, so just chirp up when you know your availability :)
Ant: Can I leave it up to you to suggest somewhere?
Rob, Everywhere is either, wet, crawly or has ladders or all of the above! Llandulas?
I'll come but it might not help your gcc request
Rob, Everywhere is either, wet, crawly or has ladders or all of the above! Llandulas?
I was thinking Gors Mine - 1M crawl to get in, then walking around, pretty dry, no ladders etc.
I'll come but it might not help your gcc request
Wrong thread - Div
I am okay for Thursday, so just confirm details for either Llandulas or Milwr

Very kind. I dislike ladders but accept their evil, like 'gastro-pubs', can't be avoided entirely.
I'm unfit due to too much desk flying.
Essentially a SRT virgin but used to climb and can still just about tell the difference between the end of a rope and something that isn't the end of a rope.
I have wellies, chest waders, old clothes including a boiler suit that will do as an oversuit initially, caving helmet, torches.
Mud, water, ladders - "keep calm and carry on" ;-)
Squeezing through small gaps - I'd make a better plug than door?
Also come fitted with a sense of humour as standard.
well I was going to stick spar mine on.

Ok, I won't make this weeks trip an official beginners trip as it looks like Iain is unsure if he can attend a trip this Thursday I'm not going to put on a beginners trip. Rob, if Iain can make it then can you take the lead here and sort somthing?
Iain, if you cannot join a trip, we will be in the pub in the evening we usually arrive 9 and 10pm depending on where we have been postcode for pub CH8 8HE

It's the one on the website
i know. it's my postcode
Bulletin board down all of yesterday?
Somewhat later than I had hoped but to save anyone hanging around I won't be able to get over to North Wales by half six today. Thanks all for the offers. Maybe next week will be doable as I'm not working so far from home ;-)
Thanks for the update. Hopefully see you next week. Yes the forum was broken all day yesterday. Keep us posted with your availability for next week, there is sometimes scope for a later meet time depending on the trip (especially if it's not the main trip and there are just a few of us)
Cheers
Hi Iain. Great to see/hear from you.
Don't believe Ian, I'm not at all hardcore! :-D
As per sweetie (rob's) last message just drop a message if you are free and he/ or someone will sort something at short notice.
Personally I'm working away for a couple of weeks so I'm a bit out of things for now.
Ohh and I assure you it was just my nephews new toy and there was no such intention.... Though now you mention it....... ;-) ;-) ,haha
Speak soon!

Righto, no work booked for Thursday afternoon so should be good to go if there is a noob suitable outing.
Can the mods also check my access to the UCET members section please?

Hi Iain this week we are in a mine with lots of ladders installing new ladders to replace dodgey ladders and to bypass an annoying squeeze.
One member is in a wet muddy crawly cave doing a survey.
Rob may take you somewhere. Otherwise see you in the pub.

Ant. You've a way with words ;), there isn't actually that much crawling or mud, and the majority is walking.
Currently surveying through the entrance wetness and then into the big passage just before the junction.
Apparently me and you are going to Spar Mine in Hendre Iain if you fancy it? Can meet you at the Oak pub in Hendre between 6.45 - 7pm. You will need old clothes, wellies and I see you have a helmet, light and sense of humour, so bring them too. There are some ladders but they are in reasonable condition and are fixed securely.
It will be a nice easy going trip. Let me know if it sounds like your cuppa T B)

Sounds great Rob, thanks.
OK, I will sort it with the pub to use their car park. Please park down the far end of the car park, I'll be in a white berlingo van. I'll be nipping into the Oak for a glass of coke after the trip, then will head over to the Glan to meet the others. There is no obligation, but if you fancy coming over to the Glan, at least you can meet some of the other members of the team (Unless spending an hour underground with me puts you off the whole idea of coming out with us ever again that is  )
See you Thursday, Just send me a text or call me if you can't make it. 07729444248. :)

Iain, I've just upgraded your access. Please let me know if you have any trouble viewing the private section of the forum.
Cheers
All working thanks.
IMPORTANT UPDATE
Just called The Oak to ask permission to use the car park, which is fine but:
IF THE GATES ARE SHUT, DO NOT OPEN THEM!
The last few times we've been, apparently we've opened the gates ourselves which is upsetting the owner as he has dogs running free.
Cheers,
Rob
Just another update:
I'll now be in a yellow Mercedes Sprinter and not a white berlingo
It never was us opening the gates. Some other group was there but I guess there is no way for the landlord to know it was a different lot.
:(

The gates being shut is some kind of coded message about vehicles?

i love you tooooo
Many thanks to Rob and Ian for taking me into Hendre Spar yesterday. Thoroughly enjoyed the trip and the company. Only took a couple of photos and didn't concentrate on those as much as I should have.
Did they put me off? No :-)
Next time we go I'll introduce them to the more thoughtful (and annoying slow!) photogrpaher side of me.
Good to meet up with everyone else in the pub later for some interesting and sometimes quite bizarre conversation (shame I couldn't sample the beer)
Great Night :)
That wasn't bizarre conversation  That was us being tame, wait until you really get to know us

It got more sensible when you were there Mike...perhaps unusually? ;-)
very
Great Photos Iain B)
