Interesting article - I am unsure if they refer to surface quarrying of the vein which might run to surface, or mining below ground? Had it been just a few years earlier those fantastic incline winders could have been returned to working order - but too late for them now :-(

Perhaps this explains the increase in security at the site - maybe we should plan a trip before it becomes out of bounds?

They have already been utilising the surface spoil for a few years now and using it as hardcore for roads.

The article would seem to suggest that they are looking to quarry the slate again though.

In terms of security - don't forget that taking the Rhiw-Bach tramway is the best approach
