I've recieved the following correspondence from the CSCA regarding the Berger trip 2014. Anyone interested should probably contact Connor in the email address below.
Hello All,
May on you have been asking for some more information with regards to the expedition so here you are. To explain this e-mail a little it is split into non-serving and serving personnel. The reason for this is due to what they can each have. To make reading faster the headings are colour coded as follows ‘all’, ‘non-serving’, ‘serving’.
Reserve forces: Please note you need to try and get ‘on duty’ statues from your unit. Whether you can gain this, is down to each unit. Gaining ‘on duty’ statues will cover you for insurance first off, and then you should be able to get CILOR and possibly transport. Should you be unable to get this you will come under non-serving personnel this does change a few things.
Dates All â€" The permit dates for the expedition are 11th â€" 31st of August. The rigging and de-rigging of the cave will take place between the 11th â€" 25th.
Dates Non-serving: You are welcome for either the rig, de-rig or all, I am sorry but no one is allowed to come just to bottom the cave and leave.
Dates Serving: The expedition for your selves will be running from around 9th â€" 27th of Augusts. You are welcome for rig, de-rig or all. An admin
order will be created for you in due course.
Transport Non-serving: You will be required to make and arrange your own transport out, however we will help with trying to arrange car sharing where every possible. This can also be done with the red rose.
Transport Serving: Transport via you units should be provided, however we encourage working between groups and trying to reduce the number of vehicles going out; also the company is always nice. You need to ensure that if you are a driver for your group that your FMT 600 is up to date and also that you have completed a European matrix test. This should all be arranged via you MT department.
Transport All: For those who have not travelled in France before many of their motorways have tolls on them, please take this into a count when planning your route.
Accommodation All: The RR has very kindly placed a deposit down for us at a fantastic camp site which can be found at: www.camping-du-vercors.fr. The costing for this are pitches with electricity : 10 â,¬ / person / night plus, tourist tax : 0,25 â,¬ / person + 13 years / night.
Accommodation Non-serving: You will need to provided your own tents etc and cover the cost of your camping.
Accommodation Serving: Tents etc can be provided through the various systems, however many may wish to use their own. Cost for accommodation may be provided however this is not confirmed.
Catering All: Group cooking is going to be strongly encourage but not force on people. A communal cocking tent will be in place, but double hob cookers etc are encouraged to be brought.
Catering Non-serving: Food cost will be needed to be covered by individuals.
Catering Serving: CILOR should be able to be gained, however people have to gain this from the personal units, it can not be down on a expedition base.
Insurance Non-serving: You will be required to have insurance to cover you in the event of an accident during your time in France. The bear minimum is that you are covered underground, however I would strongly advice that you are covered above also. A company I would recommend is Snowcard I used them before, great price and very helpful.
Insurance Serving: You are cover by military insurance below ground, however not on the surface when you have had a few to many or if something is stolen or lost. So from this I would strongly advise that everyone has some form of personal insurance to cover this; however it is not going to be forced. One thing to think about is that medical care can be expensive outside the UK.
