Here are this week's trips folks.
Trip A - Penarth Slate Mine
An interesting and easy to navigate slate mine.
The main mine is essentially a giant circle with a rail track almost running completely around in a circle. On the outside of the rail track are numerous slate chambers and on the inside is a lower mine level.
Additionally. There is a single raised incline leading to a single chamber with an interesting functional wheel.
The mine benefits from calcite intrusions as well as areas of calcite tear drops.
So far as slate mines go, it is not huge but it is interesting and unique in it’s own right with around 2-3 hours of exploration available.
Going
In Tims Landy from Cilcain Bridge:
1- Tony
2- Tim
3- Doug
4- Sweetie
5- Murf
Meeting at the layby/corwen
6- Ant
7- Dylan (maybe)
8- David 'Neo'
Meeting Places
Can either meet at Cilcain Bridge at 6.30 and those who are there can pack into a few vehicles as possible, or can meet at the layby on the A5 between Corwen and Llangollen at approx 7.00, and then we can all head up to the mine.
Layby on A5 - Everyone to meet up here at approx 7pm

We should be in the mine for about 2-3 hours which gives us just enought time to catch last orders in the nearest water hole.
---------------------------------
Trip B - Maeshafn Mine
Richard Timms and his daughter will be going here along with Vikki so anyone who doesn't fancy the Penarth Trip can come along to see this interesting little mine.
A good little mine. Dirty with squeezes in places and a bit of crawling, so kneepads and gloves a good idea.
Meeting Place
Maeshafn Village - 6.30pm

Going
Vikki, Richard and Daughter, Ian (maybe)
----------------------
Add your names on here or via text/email and I will keep attendee lists updated.
Would also like to say a big thank you to Vikki for posting up all the midweek trips this past year. I will be posting trips on here, via texts, emails, carrier pigeons, smoke signals etc etc.
Also, how the heck do you embed google maps on here? I can't seem to do it anymore :S
Thanks Vikki, we'll be at Maeshafn for a rare thursday trip out. :)
As many as possible please meet at cilcain bridge at 6:30 and I'll take everyone over there in the landrover and up the mountain through the forest tracks - saves a LOT of time!
Anyone who would prefer to meet at the layby - thats fine - i'll pick you up from there and still drive up the mountain in the landy.
Thought best to add the layby as another meet point incase people would be coming out of their way getting to Cilcain.
Can you remember who else said they were coming in the pub last week?

Did I miss something at the AGM or did you just carry on after I left ? :S
Ian
Stick me down for provisional at Maeshafn (I have a meeting I need to move/cancel) - I think it would be helpful to have a second pair of eyes :)
Ian
How did you know I was going to Penarth ;)
I'll meet you in the layby unless Your willing to call by mine again Tim? Seems a bit pointless for me to drive in the wrong direction!
Meet me in the layby - or beter still at the pull in for the farm at the start of the forest track we go up - theres space for your car particularly if yours is the only one - i'll be approaching from the Corwen side so it'll save me having to overshoot to the layby and back again.

yer perfect.
Murf - and i reminded him on the phone last night (i've edited top post to add him), and I thought Mike was coming to? (added with a ??). If sweetie and Doug are coming i expect Crazy might too - i'll try to find out.
Spoke to Mike at the weekend, he said he couldn;t make it now.
paaaa - poor show! :-P Bloody big girls blouse, Lovely Slate mine not good enough for you captain?
ok, will be at the farm track.
Yeah come on Mike, it's a 'pretty' slate mine this time. Lmao. :woohoo:
I've been to worse - it is actually quite a nice one
Cool looking forward to it. Will be bringing Richard & Iestyn's clothing order along with chest harness for Iestyn to pass on to someone doing the Yorkshire trip.
Sweetie - you spoken to doug or crazy - i know dug was on about this trip on thursday but has either of you (being as you're a love triangle) spoken to crazy to see if he's coming with us?

Joke from the weekend as Mike wasn't overly impressed with Guy's 'pretty' lead mine on Sunday.

No shit ... but, if Aberllyn doesn't do it - nothing will. not even Mary
incidentally, i'd say the chances of getting back from Corwen to the Glan in time for a pint are next to zero, and bearing in mind the other group is going to be in Maeshafn, how about aiming to meet for a pint at the Druid Inn in Lanferres (near the layby where we meet for Bog mine etc) which is on route back for both Groups? I'll bring a UCET poster with me to stick up.
We should/could easily be able to make it in time for last orders i think!

The Druid seems a good idea.
Hopefully then I can still pick up my clothing order from Rob
Sorry to miss out on the bigger trip to Penarth but I did it all on my own a couple of weeks ago,
and as I've got my daughter with me I think she,d prefer somewhere a bit crawlier :)
Richard, no problem. We'll aim to get there (the druid) as early as we can - whenever thats gonna be!!!
Added David/Neo to first post. He'll be at the layby.
Yep Druids sounds good to me too.
Yeah come on Mike, it's a 'pretty' slate mine this time. Lmao. :woohoo:

Sweetie - you spoken to doug or crazy - i know dug was on about this trip on thursday but has either of you (being as you're a love triangle) spoken to crazy to see if he's coming with us?
CJ isn't joining us. Less of the love triangle shit, he only has eyes for Doug. Want a lift to Cilcain Tony?
neo and ant travelling together i guess???
Would know if he bothered to check the forum! Does not look like though.

I'll meet you at the Farm track with Neo-looks like we are the only ones meeting you there, Appart from Dylan who I know will be outside his house as you pass if he is coming

Bryn is a prick to be fair! If I was committing charity fraud, I'd be wanting to keep a low profile, not aggravating people in the pub. I was going to say 'People in glass houses shouldn't throw stones' but that seems a somewhat poor and insensitive metaphor to use towards a hobo
Neo, ok, that one is fine - but better still would be the end of the farm/forest track here: (the same one ant is referring to meeting at)

I'll go to the farm track (above link) if you're not there i'll know to come on to the layby.

Ant - perfect - see you & neo at the end of the farm track :-)
I'm now travelling up with Ant so we will see you at the farm track.
Great trip guys! The caverns are huge! The ceilings were very impressive. Going to have to go down there for the afternoon and explore more of the mine.
Those caverns are pretty small. Wait until you see the size of them in Moel Fferna.
Really, wow! Only one problem, I cant do SRT to get down that mine yet.
It can also be accessed by just rigging an electron ladder. Its only a small pitch.
OK, not too bad then. When is the next trip? ;)
Check out this link for report, photo's and video of a trip last year.

Check Mad-Dan's pictures of the ceiling.
Few pics from last night.
