ok - this is , for now - a numbers / interest thread - exact trips and routes will be thrashed out in the week before the trip
the plan is to book accommodation for the Friday / Saturday night - and get 2 good trips in
but obviously to make a booking we need semi accurate numbers - too many people book 15 bunks and then only 5 people show up - itt happens :(
so who is coming :
1 - andyj
2 - tim
3 - Purdie (Arriving Friday, Leaving Saturday evening)
4 - Joel (Arriving Friday, Leaving Saturday evening)
5 - Lauren (Arriving Friday, Leaving Saturday evening)
6 - Tom (Arriving Friday, Leaving Saturday evening)
7 - iestyn
8 - Tony
9 - Boydy
10 - Vikki
11 - Mike L (Sunday daytime Only)
12 - John O
check your diaries and make time for an epic weekend :)
coming up for just one day is an option too - but for now I just need numbers for the hut booking
chop chop :)
I'm in
ok - time ticks on and we need to make an accommodation booking - so what date are people actually going to agree too
don't make me get the cattle-prod out
I can do the 11th-13th April.
I can do the 11th-13th April.
me too
right - an update
tom, lauren and joel - and me - are all ok for original date and we're all confirmed.
i've edited andys original post with the list of names confirmed up to now.
i've deleted all the shit about alternative dates...
just got to decide where now.
boxhead to Notts 2 through lyle ???
Accomodation? Any suggestions? I don't mind where we stay - i'll even camp/sleep in the landy
Andy - what would you suggest?
Okay so Tony's been trying to convince me to come but for now I can only say maybe, just because i'm not comfortable doing SRT that's too technical and also dont want to hold any of you more experienced ones back, so I will wait and see what trips you've got planned if thats okay.
what a load of utter complete crap! How the hell are you going to be 'holding us back'? You're perfectly competent at SRT so put a sock in it vik. You're coming if you like it or not.
You're more competent than I am, Vikki!!
Yeah, I second Tim! This is a club trip and we cave as a club meaning we don't leave people behind! Anyhow, you'll probably be leaving us behind hah
Can't make this weekend :(
Vik, you would not hold anyone up. Me on the other hand... by the time I got to the bottom of the pitch you lot would be ready to go back out.
Its a club trip - there are people of all speeds and abilities and thats the point - EVERYONE should be coming and having fun. EVERYONE!
ok - I have booked accommodation - it was second on the list of 5 in descending order
but we will be guests of the RRCPC
@ bullpot farm - so its going to be good
I have paid a £20 deposit - so am committed
right - I have checked permits for casterton with allan speight - and we can have any we want [ if we make a proper request promptly ] - so does anyone have good familiarity with easegill system ??? and have a trip in mind they could / would lead ??
Could we get a cow pot to county trip permit?
180 miles
who decided to stick yorkshire so far away!?
You chose to live in Mordor. It's not as far for the rest of us ;-) only an hour and a bit for us :-)
boxheadpot to lost johns is a good change over trip and within 2 minutes from the parked cars,Tim has never done
lost johns and thats a classic if you happen to do this one give me a shout and i will come up and join you all on the day.
mick
i'm easy - micks suggestion sounds good for one day or the other
and toms cow pot to county for the other ?
I haven't a fookin scooby about leading either though - but i don't mind doing rigging / de-rigging as required. lol
hi - appologies for the delay - but been busy :)
hear is how the trip planning stands :
we have accommodation booked @ bullpot farm , casterton fell - 10 people for 2 nights - Friday / Saturday - a great caving hut - but thee closest pub = 3 miles away - so prob best to bring beer
we have a permit for Lancaster hole - Saturday 12th - which opens up virtually the entire easegill system to us - the best choices are through trips to wretched rabbit - an arduous trip or county pot easier - but needs some pre-rigging ]- the problem is navigation - at the moment it seems that only tom is fit to lead any trip beyond a simple wander - though I am working on hiring a " guest navigator "
for sunday - I had planned a kingsdale throught trip either swinsto or simpson -for the simple reason - they are epic multi pitch abseils - BUT exiting is only a 5m prussic up one pitch then a easy walk out .
but other ideas are welcome - if others are agreeable I can request a boxhead / LJ permit for smurf
and there are hundreds of other permit free options and we can try for other permits for sunday
I say that unless we are applying for permits - leave the exact sunday plan till sat night - so we know the weather - cos if the weather is fine - the problem is getting everyone to agree to a trip that suits their expectations and abilities NOT a limited choice of caves
that's it so far - any questions I have not addressed or ideas - sound off
Sounds awesome
closest pub = 3 miles away - so prob best to bring beer
I meant to ask about that after looking at the place on google earth
Count me in for this one Tim / Andy :silly:
:silly: :silly:
Sounds good, looking forward to it :)
Vikki is coming too. Can you add her to the list please Andy.
bloody right she is! ;-) (Just added her) :)
Hi
I am tempted by this, I am to late to join? but again like Vicky I don't want to hold anyone back and I would need at least one SRT practice session before we went as I haven't done any in ages.
John.
According to Murf last night I'm going

plenty of room john. get yourself down north henblas for a practice

Can you make north henblas on the 10th? Thurs before the weekend trip? I'm planning on having a practise on the rebelays
as my head has been up my arse this week - its only just sunk in that the leck fell close season starts Tuesday 1st APRIL 2014 .
so we can do nothing on leck fell - but apart from smurfs disappointment that we cannot do boxhead trip for him - it makes no issue - we have hundreds of other choices for sunday

Hopefully I should be able to make this, and I have been given the ok for the weekend so can I book a place.
change of plan for me, i can only make the sunday :( :( :( soz
Has anyone got a seat going spare in their car that they'd swap for a few beers?
save me driving the whole way on my tod :)
I expect so - are there any plans regarding transport - I can take the landy with trailer for nine people with gear if required? But that being the case i'd want to try to fill it with as many as possible to make it worth sharing the diesel. Failing that i'll jump in with someone too.
if i make the assumption that Joel and Lauren and Andy intend making travel arrangements from their own directions and Captain Mike is only coming for one day i could suggest offering a lift from this area to....
1 - tim
2 - Tom
3 - iestyn
4 - Tony
5 - Boydy
6 - Vikki
If Joel fancied getting to say stretton roundabout on the M56 (Leave car in Stretton Fox Pub carpark) I could pick you up on route too. Lauren - don;t even know where she lives but happy to pick up on route too if required.
potentially would make:
7) Joel
8 ) Lauren
9) Purdie
which would fill the landy quite nicely.
If we go in the Landy what time would you be thinking of leaving?
dunno - i'm free all day. Anyone of the intended passangers got any time requirements? i.e. what time are you back from work?
I've got the day off too, so not bothered.
When are we planning on coming back? I notice the thread says 13th, which is monday. I've got a job interview at 1330 on monday
Expect a 2.5 hr drive from Tim's house - under ideal conditions - a UCET rabble - will probably take 3
Naa - your diary must be out of calibration. We'll be coming back Sunday eve - which is the 13th. Iestyn once we determine any people with time constraints we'll firm up times for friday. But assuming people want to all go in the landy together then you can leave your car at my place for the weekend.
@ llestyn - the 13th is a sunday - at least it is in England - YMMV in wolly back land
Oh yeah! lol. my mistake!
sound good to me :)
first post updated with list of names for accom etc - Mike L no only coming for the Sunday, 'Purdie' from DCC added , taking his bed
113 miles from My house to the farm. 2 hours.
just had it sprung that Joel, Tom, Lauren and Purdie are only coming for friday night, activities on Saturday with us and then leaving to go to an event in derbyshire on Saturday night, and caving derbyshire sunday.
I've updated the initial post to reflect the latest state of play to the best of my knowledge.
Shame we've lost Tom on Sunday coz he was a key player in terms of guide.
I told you that when you last edited it:-P do you ever listen.. Ha.
I'm helping guide on Saturday, Sunday you'll be fine because you're planning Swinsto I think, you cant go wrong in there. You'll all be goosed anyway, too much Guinness and too many maps to choose from.
hmm - i don't remember - and if its not written on the forum it didn't happen - good riddance to bad rubbish i say anyway! :-P
Tim was very convincing last night, pretending he knew nothing about us leaving on the Saturday night
I hear tales of drunken debauchery coming from Derbyshire on the Saturday night, and naturally, that must come first.

Looks like I have been forgotten :(
That would be Tim, he's very forgetful :P
Johno if you look at list on top of page 1 you have
Been added :)
What's happening with transport???
I'm off Friday and if numbers are low going from this end
I don't mind driving!! :P
6 in the landy is an ok number - and will fit gear inside rather than on roof.
Comparable fuel costs to 2 cars i imagine.
Whos working on friday - regarding what time we can leave - either way round.
couple of questions..
do I need a wetsuit?
are yorkshire caves clean enough for me to get away with wearing a navaho without it getting destroyed
and, what time are we leaving?!
:D
@llestyn :
q1 - only if you want to be the gimp - I assume you have a caving furysut and oversuit ???
q2 - no - some muddy - some tight bits - I have a spare sit harness if needed
q3 - ask timbo
I have spoken to Mike, I am going to travel up with him on Saturday morning, but I intend to stay Saturday night so can someone please give me a lift back to Mikes place on Sunday.
"some tight bits"
Not to tight I hope I may get stuck
Thanks
JohnO
Thanks Andy. I've got a caving suit and furry. I've also got a sit harness, just fancied a bit of comfort!! :D
I tend to get stuck everywhere too lol
It's a long shot... but has anyone a spare one of these? http://www.amazon.co.uk/Manfrotto-785PL-Plate-Modo-Tripod/dp/B000L484VW/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1397164178&sr=8-1&keywords=manfrotto+plates (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Manfrotto-785PL-Plate-Modo-Tripod/dp/B000L484VW/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1397164178&sr=8-1&keywords=manfrotto+plates)
I left it up a radio telescope last night and i'm not going back to get it.
joel - i've got one you can borrow but i'll need it back
right - latest plan as devised by Tony, Vicki and Me tonight in the pub....
Basically, Tony will pick Boydy up and get to my house for 2pm. (Tony - please will you speak to boydy and arrange/agree this).
Iestyn - please can you also get to my house for 2pm.
Leave Tony and Iestyns cars here...we'll then travel all together in the landy (picking Vicki up on route).
We'll be stopping at Asda at Queensferry to get beers and food supplies for the weekend.
JohnO - there is space in the Landy for you to return with us (to mikes house) on Sunday. Indeed, there is space in the landy of friday afternoon if you change your mind and want to stay two nights? if so just let me know in advance so we can wait in case you're late arriving - and yes, there is space for another car here.
ETA at the farm (by the time we've stopped on route and fucked about) probably about 5pm ish.
OK : the " little details "
cash needed - £5 / night [ hut fee ] PLUSS we will collectively need a few pound coins - to operate the drying room
bullpot farm is REMOTE - its at the end of a 3 mile track - so " forgetting " essential stuff will be an embugerance
bring your own beer - as going to the pub is a PITA
food - the kitchen has everything you need except food ample sized fridge - but no freezer
sleeping - is alpine bunks - so just lightweight sleeping bag and pillow if needed
I will have all the rigging gear for planned trips -
any questions ??
arrival time ???????????????????
timbo and hooligans - at 17:00 ??????????? that's early - and there is fook all to do on casteryon fell that doesn't involve caves or sheep
would people be interested in a quickie down bullpot of the witches ???? it is a simple cave - just a 2min wallk from the farm -
and has some interesting features - its quite photogenic - with a large open enterance and descending streamway
his is a caving weekend - so it would be rude not to
Sounds good to me.
Tim, I'm not 100% sure if where you live. I can get to cilcain bridge ok, am I right in thinking you're just up the hill from there?

Andy - can just play it by ear - will probably drive to the pub get grub and drive back and then have beers.
Both myself and tom are arriving at about 10pm
Will we be going to the pub first on Saturday night to eat first or do we need to bring food for an evening meal?
Does the cave on Saturday have a snack bar at the bottom for lunch or do I have to bring that as well ;)
guy johno and myself will be at inglesports for 9.00am .breakfast time see you all there
Thanks for a great trip and for looking after me guys. Special thanks to Andy for arranging the trip and leading, also thanks to Guy, Tim and Iestyn for their lifts. When is the next one :woohoo:
Cheers for an awesome weekend. Far too much alcohol but i wouldn't expect anything less. :silly:
Thanks for a brilliant weekend everyone! I'm definitely converted to caving and cant wait to get underground again! Wont be too soon though, turns out I've managed to fracture my arm at some point :D
Fantastic weekend. Awesome caving as per the norm in Yorkshire. Will hopefully start putting together video and photo's during the week.
Would have like to have done more caving but trying to get Andy out of bed was nigh on impossible ;)
ROPE FREE!!!!!!!! :D
Awesome weekend, cheers everyone :)
Looking forward to seeing 'some' of the photo's and definitely looking forward to the next one. We need these weekends more often..
Tom.
I mainly recorded video but here's a few pics I did get.
Just found these pictures on the camera, not even sure who took them as i don't remember taking any!
a few of mine - hardly took any underground coz saturday i had a splitting headache (for some reason?) and sunday there was too much spray about most of the day....

Video 1 of 2 from the weekend. This video is the Saturday trip into Lancaster Hole.

On watching the video I have now noticed all the rope rub points on the lid upon entry!!
