Title: LRO magazine
Post by: Iestyn Rhys Pritchard on Nov 12, 2013, 03:24 PM
I sent some photos of the 101 up at Cwm Croesor from CRTT (including the one of it stuck, don't worry) into the photo competition in Land Rover Owner magazine.

I had an email back asking for more information, so i replied describing the calamities that unfold every time i get behind the wheel and they seem fascinated by it.

One of the editors has asked if I'd be using the 101 as mine-exploration transport anytime soon, because they'd like to send a photographer along, and they're going to write a feature about it.

So, who fancies a trip in the next couple of weeks, where we can use the 101 as transport?!  :cheer:

Me me me! We could go to Croesor again or to moel fferna both have lanes to them ...wether we allowed to use them or not is another thing lol

Ill try and keep thinking of mines that have green lanes to em.

Croesor seems the obvious choice. It would cost a fortune to drive to Moel Fferna, and I'm not convinced the 101 would make it all the way there!!

it would be nice if we could take the photographer on the trip itself, which might be a problem at CRTT. The email says the photographer is a keen climber, so he should manage the abseils. But, by taking a newbie to CRTT, are we any better than 28dl?!

Yes, thats fine for me - keep me posted with times etc. I can bring some spare equipment so the bloke can at least come for a walk into the first sections of the mine.

Please confirm asap so i can arrange my week.

:-) Sounds like great fun!

If for some reason, the guy can't make it on Tuesday, do we want to do the trip anyway, or go somewhere else?

To be honest, as much as i'd like to i've got loads at home that i should be getting done so if he can't do it one day (any day) next week, (or monday or tuesday the following week) then i'd rather give it a miss. Well i'd rather get underground, but i shouldn't!

In other words, if the LRO guy can make it then i'm happy to make that a good enough excuse to myself for another days caving, but if he's not, i better not!

I emailed the guy last night with times an dates, but they clearly don't work weekends. It probably going to be too short notice by the time they get the email on Monday, so don't hold your breath!

Still not heard anything back from LRO, but I've emailed suggesting next Tuesday would be more convenient. I hope Frank can make it next week, also it gives me more time to sort a few bits and bobs on the 101, plus I've just bought a series 3 ambulance in Essex which I'll be going to fetch this week. Would be great to get two ambulances up there :)

Right, looks like we're all set for Tuesday.
I'm going to be meeting the photographer and some other guy from the mag at 9am so they can get shit done without the trip running late.

If I'm not down at the car park by 10am, perhaps Tim could drive the rest of you up?

Or we could postpone the trip and have a 11am meet time. It's up to you guys

Either way, I don't fancy driving the 101 up twice

Right.

So, I'll be at the car park in the link below at 10am and then make my way up the track to [strike]recover[/strike] meet the 101.

Frank, Andy & Anyone else, I'll be leaving my house at 08:00 if you want a lift.

Roughly how long is CRTT time wise? I'm just wondering how critical it's going to be that all my lights work. I'd like to avoid driving down from the mine in the dark altogether if possible

edit- photographer wont be coming underground btw. So no need to wory about extra equipment

You can get through in about an hour if you get a move on - but i'd suggest allowing at least six. Even longer if we had a load of newbies. I'd suggest that we make sure we've got working lights to be fair.

If they want an underground photo they can have one of mine :-)

The lights do work, they're just a bit shit. I've got a pair of square spotlights that I can stick on in place of the old fog lights

Tim and Andy
Tim if you can't make it no probs. I don't particularly want to walk in and Iestyn will be tied up with magazine chaps so I reckon we should just can it until another date.

TBH - I would jump at any opportunity to cancel

this week is turning into a nightmare :(

I have [ somehow ] got my kit ready - and can do the trip

and can drive / give frank a lift etc etc

but I would preffer not to - I know that sucks - and I have already bailed out on a surveying trip today - which I was upset to miss

so - with no tim - the ball is in frank / iestyn`s court

if you want to do it - I will attend - if you don't - I will be gratefull

Sorry it's taken so long for me to answer, I've been out of the house till now.

Yeah, scrap the trip.

I'll still be driving up with the mag people, so cancelling the trip will allow more time to arse about with photos.

we'll just have to re-schedule! Sounds like we're all tied up now til after christmas. so a trip for the new year maybe  ;)
