Trip Report : Moelfre to Dulas (Anglesey)  13th June 2013

We parked at the council offices (which were closed leaving a rather large and empty car park) and headed straight for the public footpath right opposite. This path would lead (in a somewhat winding fashion) down to the beach to meet up with the North Wales Coastal Path.

As we hit the first beach (Porth Helaeth) we took a quick detour to make an easy scramble to grab a geocache. Immediately afterwards we re-took the path and headed to Dulas stopping briefly to look at the Royal Charterhouse stone.

Fishermen littered the rocky sea path, all trying the luck against the blue sea and light breeze â€" we wondered how many fish had been caught. The fishermen were not the only predators, we spotted a Kestrel fixated on a target â€" so engrossed was it that it seems to fail to notice us as we filmed it from a short distance hovering.

Onwards we went, sometimes losing the sea breeze and baking in the heat until we located the second geocache slightly before Traeth Lligwy. This beach was “half full” of folk taking advantage of the hot weather, some even dared to venture into the waters .... no jelly fish yet so they were mostly safe. The car park here held a small cafe which offered a parasidical ice lolly (which we accepted with great thanks).

We passed beyond the bay of Lligwy onwards to Dulas and just before the Bay of Dulas we swung 90 degrees and began the slow ascent along the ridge of the Dulas “Orme”. This was gruelling with the sun beating down and no sea breeze â€" it seemed to go forever upwards until, finally, we breached the summit and descended to the road.

Here we found the Morris Memorial where we stopped to take a quick peep. The least favourite part of our journey was now to begin as we used the roadway to complete a circular walk. Finally we came back to our car somewhat exhausted and very hot. We estimated the walk to be 7-8 miles with all the detours and extra bits we added on and somewhat slow in the heat (about 4 hours).

did you notice on the way back along the road the name for dulas is city dulas  :P  :P  :P

Yes and it is also printed as such on the O/S map. Only "locals" would know that and I decided to drop the word "City" because it would likely attract questions like "what the fook"  :whistle:

I was on the rocks near where the Royal Charter came to rest a couple of years ago looking for artefacts and in one of the cracks came across a few finger digits (phalanges) and part of one of the bones from a forearm.

I love the way you keep Helen a good 4 or 5 paces behind you. How long did it take you to manage that? It is the law in some countries.
