Why not dig it really big so it stays open for even longer?
(and I'll be able to walk through instead of crawl...)
Les, you know it is an unforgiving sh!thole, right ?
:S
Ian
If you spread all that nice sand onto the mud floor instead of stockpiling it in the dumpy bags, then it might get a bit cleaner...
It is not "nice" sand - it gets inside your knee pads and exfoliates ALL the skin off your knees. It gets in your wet socks and does the same to the underside of your feet. It remains tucked in the crevices of your bollox for days even after many showers and it somehow finds it’s way into ham sandwiches during the following days lunch.
Grrrrrr @ the sand

..... There is no doubt at all :S
Ian has just reinforced my "Caves... not feckin' interested" opinion. Sounds bloody nasty, and I'll stick to some nice old mines thankyouverybloodymuch.
theres some lovely caves out there Ali, just not found any in wales yet, nadolig is very nice, just quite small, poachers is a shithole that I will never be going in again, I quite fancy a look in OHA but I get the feeling I will be disappointed, i'm still waitying for Tim to syphen the sumps though.
The only caves that really make me want to go in are so far outside of my abilities (Titan) and price range (Hang Son Doong) that it's not funny.
Your "typical" British cave does, quite frankly, feck all for me. Wriggling through a flat out crawl, covered in bat-shit, and realising I probably have to go back through it on the way out, and the possibility that I may suddenly encounter some distinctly unfriendly water where there shouldn't bloody be any because I am currently occupying the space that water has decided it wants to be in? I'd rather rub Deep Heat into my balls. Horses for courses though, and some people obviously like it, strange as that seems to me.
Great video Ian :silly:
I'm in the 'obviously like it' boat on this one. OHA is by far my favourite cave I've been in (not that there have been many............YET). I do like the sporty aspect to it, and OHA has everything. Each time I've been in there (3 times) I've gradually got a little bit further in each time.
Last night Mike took me to the 90ft pitch and despite the mud, I thought it was stunning in there. Really, Really, REALLLLLLLY looking forward to a trip to the end in the summer.
And I've told Amy we're gonna chuck her into that tight crawl to have a nosey too :)

Hey, that's pretty good actually ;) ;) ;)
Tony, yes, OHA is a really great cave if you get your head past the "goo" - it is stunning in many ways. It is, nevertheless, a sh!thole.
:P
Ian
OHA is still my favourite :-) Anyone doubting me is obviously wrong. ;-) Isn't free speech an amazing thing :-P
Tony, its gets better and better.
The entrance crawl and the mud after the sand crawl is - well - 'part of the character building' aspect of the cave, but there are some fantastic larger areas too - and in my opinion, once the SRT starts, the cave begins to take on its real character, including some epic chambers and passages beyond the sumps.
Yes, now the sand crawl is clear again I definitely think its time to fire up the siphon - just need this bloody rain to stop!
....all of which has just prompted me to post a trip........ let get dirty peeps!
