Right..
The plan is to go and have a look at Rhosydd slate mine, but i had been asked if we could also do the CRTT on the same day.
so the plan is, the trip is Rhosydd slate mine, if there is enough interest, we could split into 2 groups, one lot doing the CRTT and one lot having a look at Rhosydd..
MEETING -
The lakeside Cafe, Tanygrisiau, Blaenau Ffestiniog, Gwynedd, LL41 3TP - 9-30am for breakfast, leaving at 10am,
CRTT is a SRT trip involving various abseils, boat crossings, traverse's and other stuff.
Rhosydd slate mine is something i've only ever walked through after doing the CRTT so i'm not sure whats in there.
who's interested and what bit are you interested in doing?
Rhosydd
Turbo
Ant
CRTT
Undecided
Mad-Dan
Andy
Currently i would really like a look around Rhosydd, BUT, i will do the CRTT if there is interest and no one else who is going knows the way through.
so i will be on the trip, but dont yet know which bit i will be doing
Interested in doing it as CRTT
Rhosydd for me if I make it.
The missus may be off that week, so provisionally, Rhosydd.
The missus may be off that week, so provisionally, Rhosydd.
good lad thumb print i may come too :)
She's off from the 3rd, so it's a no-go. :(
i know my way round rhosydd and to croesor from there too .eastern workings are scary but fun .nice drumhouse in there also ...so im coming too x 1 .
Put 3 new military grade ropes (Kindly donated by Go-Below Underground Adventures)and a few new malions in all of the abseils in Croesor/Rhosydd for future through trips so when you do it use the new black ones, don't use the other sheite that's in there. All nice and safe .....for now!!
Nice one, the last ones havent done too badly, been in sinse november last year
Fookin ell since November !!!!! they were proper fooked if ever ive seen em ...took some pictures of two of the ropes in there and should have brought some samples of them out which I could have sent to the BCA for testing (only costs a few quid and the results are worth seeing for comical purposes) :woohoo:
i will turn up - will decide what to carry and where to go based on what other peeps are planing / wishing to do
first post updated with time and location.
can paople who are comming just confirm that you are comming (yes Andy, i know you allready have)

Looks like the CRTT is a non starter this time round, so I won't be coming. I know that sounds a bit like throwing-the-rattle-out-of the-pram, but it isn't really. I've done the Rhosydd walkabout, so there's nothing new for me on this one. Maybe next time there will be more takers. :)
not at all Richard, no worries, no point in wasting a day on something you're not that interested in. Passed up many trips for just that reason.
richard - dont give up yet
there is still time to rope in some victims
but dan and i have both wanted to do the roshydd pedestrian explore for some time
but if there are enough people sign up - one of us will gladdly be navigation munkie
CRTT is deffo on my radar but I can't make this weekend sadly, so will look forward to when it next comes up.
or those who want to do crtt can go in to rhosydd with the group and start from there ,do it backwards .i know a few who have done it that way :)
Bella and I would also like to do CRTT but have other commitments for this Sunday.
Maybe this can be rescheduled for after school exams.
Looks like there is a few of us that want to do CRTT then.
I've wanted to do it for ages, but I can never seem to make the trips when they're organized! :(
theres nothing to stop you all aranging your own, the route is fairly obvious into Rhosydd, and worst case you would have to climb out of the twll if you cant find number 9 adit, you cant really not find the twll if it's light outside.
I might come ;)
top stuff..
will your leg survive the walk up :-)
just watch out for any new loose ceilings!!

Yup, it's "ok" (I think). Last "trouble" I had was prussicking and I thought I would walk up to mine rather than prussick using an Indian rope trip along the path ....
:)
Tim, you worry to much.
well, hope to see you in the cafe Ian
just saying! ;-) Seriously though, look for new shiny bits - there's bound to be some fresh stuff :-)
in the event of a roof fall - i plan to dive under ians zimmerframe - that will act as a saftey cage :P
FLASH TRIP REPORT
I know Dan will put up one of his usual excellent trip reports but I had to jump in first with a quick report of what we found in Rhosydd ...
I know Tim joked about finding new ground after the earthquake (or was it to watch out for dodgy stuff??) but we stumbled on a huge area which has become accessible â€" possibly the lost eastlings (we didn’t have a compass to know which direction we were heading in).
A new fall has brought a chamber down but in the process it opened a cross “manway†and by climbing the fall we got into the “manway†and into another chamber. We dropped about 10 feet down (a bit dodgy without a rope) and we were into a system of chambers (we reckon there are about 16 on two levels although a couple go through both levels). The entire section had a fine layer of dust and we were certain no one else had been here as we left an obvious foot trail as we walked.
It is hard to say whether anyone had been in since the 1920’s or whether that part of the mine was collapsed or simply closed but there was plenty to see. A lonely caban had a stack of newspapers (we guessed 40ish) but they were in a poor condition and we dared not disturb them. Moving the dust we think the date is June 1914 on the top one. There were some tools (not like I had seen before) and various bit and pieces with a rusty metal mug with the name “Jolyon†still visible.
Water was running through one of the chambers and had all but destroyed a wooden based cart (which was a shame). The water was odd because none of us could understand where it was originating from. It went down a manway thingy into the top of another chamber below which we could not access as it was not bolted (obviously) and we had no kit anyway.
The highlight was the 9 carts still in situ at the bottom of an incline (like the one near the Croesor connection). It seems that this system of loading a cart onto a cart was used at the other side of the mine too but these carts are all still there.
Anyway, Dan’s report to follow with piccies. He did whine his camera was playing up but he got plenty of shots. Ant also took a number of shots (sometimes using Dan’s lighting) so, between the two of them, we should have something decent.
Ian
Fantastic Ian!
I can understand why you are bubbling over to spill the beans.
I hope we can join a second trip soon - when Bella has finished all exams.
thanks for that ian, sounds vary interesting(considering it's a mine)
Ooh nice report Ian. Very much looking forward to the piccies
