Brewers Yard Stone Quarry.

Visited with AndyJ, Jay and Myself..

This was our second trip of the day, and by the time we got here I was past it, my feet were killing, my back hurt, I was hungry and generally just could not be bothered, luckily once we were in, it quickly became apparent that the quarry was really small, which I was thank-full for.

Entry is via “the slippery slope” as the name would suggest, it's a slope and it's fairly slippy, so much so you really could do with a hand line in place to get up and down, there is a polly rope in place, but as none of us wanted to hang off it, and us not knowing what exactly is at the bottom of the slope, we put our own rope in for the trip.

Once in we just went for a wonder, after a short while we found a stone staircase, the quarry was worked on 2 levels, we had another wonder around the lower level, before heading back up and out.

Brewers Yard is a Bath stone quarry in Corsham, Wiltshire, it is fairly small in size, but is unique as far as it was worked on 2 levels. The quarry has 2 shafts to the surface, one from level one, and one from below level 2 which passers through both levels, Both of these are now capped, there is also the slope shaft, which looks to of been used for access.

Our trip time in here was around 2 hours, we headed from here back to where we were staying, then we hit the hunters for a few beers as is the law.
