Alderley Edge, Engine vein April 2013

Visited with Olly And Lauren (from DCC)

First off, huge thanks Lauren for aranging this for me at such short notice.

With no one wanting to do the Minera trip, and a lot of people heading up to Nent, i was left with a free weekend with nothing to do and no one to do it with, the prospect of having to spend a full weekend in the house was making me depressed, it felt like i hadnt been out for ages, infact i couldnt remember the last time i had been out.

I had been to alderley once before, but only looked at a tiny bit of the workings so i decided to see if i could wangle a trip, Knowing Edd was up at Nent, and thinking Tom was with him, I Got in touch with Lauren to see if she was free and to see if she had access to a key, she said she would see what she could do.

Lauren got back in touch with me a while later saying she could show me around on the saturday, and asked what i would like to see, as i was happy to see anything, she said we could have a look at Engine vein and if there was time, maybe go and have a look at wood.

The plan was to meet at the Wizard at 10.30am, Alderley is only half an hour in weekend traffic from me, so i even managed to get a lay in.

I got to alderley, met up with Lauren and Olly and got kitted up. We had a quick  look around the surface first, it's really interesting with a great big scare accross the landscape.

a short while later we got to a door which we entered the mine through, the mine isnt "extensive" but it's big enough to be worth a visit and it's very very pretty with a interesting history, olly and lauren told me loads of little facts which they asure me are completely true.

The mine it's self is for the most part dry and sandy, DCC's work in the mine is extensive, they've done a great job of pushing dig's and still have a couple of ongoing projects.

we did a "through trip" exiting somewhere much lower down from where we went in, but as we had all left bags around the mine, we had to go back in anyway, doing the route in reverse, but also heading down other passage ways looking at other interesting bits.

we got back out of the workings at about 3pm and decided we look at other workings on another day, just time for a quick chat before heading home for my tea and a beer...

first time with my 10mm underground so struggled with focusing a bit, so these are the best i could do.
