Minera Cabin Shaft, visited with John N, Richard S, Dan, Vikki, lestyn and from DCC - Tom, CPC - AndyJ
My day started quite late with a 9am pick up at my house off Andy, we loaded the car up and headed over to minera where we were meeting the others at the 4 crossers inn. we were there quite early but were still beaten by Richard, not long after after lestyn turned up followed by vikki then tom, we hung about till 10.50 for late comers but no one else showed so we headed up the carpark.
while kitting up john turned up, unfortunatly john had'nt remembered to bring a harness or belt so vikki was kind enough to lend him hers. we headed over to cabin shaft where Andy rigged an electron and lifeline for the none SRT'ers and a rope for the people that do. I dropped down first on the rope making sure the the ladder was down and untangled, i was quickly followed by all the others who either abb'd down or used the ladder while Andy belayed from the top.
once we were all down Tom offered to lead a through trip, john said he had done this trip before and wasnt keen to do it again, so we elected to just drop down to the left and explore this way, the trip was quite uneventfull, it involved a couple of easy climbs up and down and a trip down an electron leading to a rarther nice squeeze, one by one people started to squeeze through, john wasnt keen and declined, as i knew we didnt have kit with us to go much further anyway, i opted to wait with John while the others went over to the scaffold crossing above the flooded stope.
A short while later they all returned and we made our way back to the bottom of cabin shaft, Andy and Tom SRT'd back out to belay the others on the ladder, i stayed at the bottom to make sure people were clipping on correctly, everyone got out without problem, it was then my turn, as i had taken my SRT kit off earlier on, i opted to use the ladder, i wont be doing that again, first time on a free hanging ladder of that lenth, it takes about twice the effort of SRT, no thank you.
all in all a good day, but it was a typical minera trip for me, spend all day lugging a camera about and i only took one picture. sorry peep's, i just couldnt be bothered, i felt like poo.
Very sneaky Dan, lol
I was just being polite when I said I had enjoyed myself. Hated every second of it, never going underground again...

I dont blame you, i'm not either. :-)
Wasn't bad for a Boxing Day trip arranged at relatively short notice..
I don't think anybody was feeling 'right' today, I know I wanted to just curl up and go to sleep anyway :P But hey ho, it's Christmas :)
Picture didn't come out too bad neither :) Although only Iestyn is smiling...
Tom.
Great report .... :)
What through trip ? (Do you mean to come out at Grand Turk?)
... And I would bet I can get up the ladder in Cabin shaft faster than you can SRT; it's only technique ;)
Ian
yeh, apparently there is a through trip exiting from the GTP lid, never done that route as our goal has allways been to get deeper.
Electrons are the work of Satans uglier meaner brother.

Yes, I know it - however, it involves John's shaft of near death
John Still talks about that shaft ;-)

Yup, probably, and when work calms down a bit, I will be. No point coming out when I'm knackered, and probably a liability.
I blame the Missus for all the jokes about "exploring shafts underground"... I'm scarred for life.
Well, that and I'm really a 10yr old mentally when smutty jokes can be made.
