Visited with Marty and Dylan. Thanks to Marty for organising and rigging, and to
Dylan for running up and down the hill at Bwlch Y Plwm to find the adit.
I had aranged to meet marty in hendre at 8am, where i would follow him to his house,
leave my car there and jump in with him to go and pick Dylan up from the other side
of wales. My Day started at at 6.50 with the hours drive to hendre, Monday morning
traffic on the M56 was as i expected, crap! I got to the meeting point at 8.10am, not
too bad. Marty told me to follow him to his, which i did. for those of you that know
where Marty lives, and know that i drive a 25 year old mk1 golf rolling on coilovers,
well i'm sure you will know how interesting the next 15 mins of my day was.
We chucked my gear in Martys car and off we went to Corwen to get Dylan. The plan
was to go and do a couple of pitchs in Cwmorthin, then to head over to Bwlch Y Plwm
and do the through trip, and get some pictures while we were in there.
We got to Cwmorthin calling at the cafe on the way and set off, it was a nice easy
3 pitch route with a couple of easy traverses and no up work. my kind of SRT trip.
The trip was all rigged with pull throughs and was un-eventfull, the first pitch
is what i would call interesting! it's a "swing of faith", but other than that,
the rest is simples.
We spent a couple of hours in here, then we headed out and made our way back to the
car, we de-kitted and set off in search of Bwlch Y Plwm, It took about an hour to
find the parking spot as none of us had a clue where it was, then it took another
hour to find the right adit. by this time it was 5pm, we had a call out set for 8pm
we debated for a short while if we had time to do the trip or not, marty said we
would have plenty of time as long as we didnt spend an age taking pictures.
The first pitch is about 10m inside the Adit and directly under running water, it
made rigging the pull-through fun for Dylan, we dropped down the first pitch,
quickly rigged the second then followed the handline down to the bottom level.
we didnt stop for pictures untill we were here, i tried for a picture but it was
so humid in the mine that my camera just steamed up, as we were pushed for time, i
just gave up and decided i would do the pictures on another visit. I think marty
had a bit more sucsess than me and may of got one or 2, He took a group shot,
packed the camera away and we headed off down the adit to get out.
the walk down the adit was wet, about mid thigh wet, and it was cold, very cold.
we got out and it was even colder, the ground was frozen and it was pitch black,
we got changed and headed off. we got back to Martys at about 7.30pm and Great, my
car wouldnt start, some emergency repairs were made using a big hammer and off i
headed, getting in at 10.10pm, a long day, but good fun.
got a couple of pics at Cwm, but none at Bwlch Y Plwm.

They are BRILLIANT pictures Dan! ML is just jealous that he can't use a camera.
PS It would be a great improvement if he also learnt how to use proper English.

Excellent pictures.. i recognise 9 just off the BVI, where are the other two pitches?
not a clue, while i've been to cwmorthin loads of times, this is the first time i've done it with someone who knows the place, and i cant remember where they kept telling me i was.
sure someone who knows the place could help though.
