I have just discovered you can send an emergency text in remote areas where you don't have a signal to make a phone call.

It is easy to register, costs nothing and it could save your life (especially in our activities).

Nice spot.
It makes sense, as you can get away with far worse reception to make a text, as evidenced by my not being able to make a call on my mobile in most of my house, but texts come and go just fine, if O2 'aint playing silly buggers.
Great info Ian. I've just registered & spread the word around my walking & mountain biking buddies.
It's worrying that this info isn't common knowledge (A bit like the ICE - In Case of Emergency campaign a few years back that hardly anyone knows about)

If I remember correctly, ICE started out as a hoax/chain email thing, but actually went into use as it was actually a damned good idea.
if you ring 112 from your mobile it connects you straight to the police hq with a triangulation system so they can pinpiont you
