Here it is folks:
Trip: BOG MINE
Meet Point: Llanferres lay by
Meet time: 18.30
Notes: Will get wet, muddy and it is called Ladder Museum for good reason!!
There is a possibility that Murph will be digging again Mick please confirm!!
Oooh yay, I will be there. Been wanting to do this for a while :-)
And it's my last trip for 2 weeks as I'm going on my jollies :-D
Even I``m coming out this week!!!!!!!!!!!!
Even I``m coming out this week!!!!!!!!!!!!
What an honour, lol. Be good to see you though.
If I can get a lift, I will be out too.
are you aware that one of the ladders is loose?
i.e. you can pull the bolt that is holding it out of the wall by hand!
i did let tim know about this the other week, he said he would re-bolt it, but i doubt he has had chance to do it yet.
it could of been like this for a while, but we roped it to pass it just incase.
you would prob be ok on the ladder as long as you are carefull and are aware of it
hi newstuff do you live in wrexham if so i can pick you up and do you know the way there
I would like to have a look at this Bog Mine. The meeting place, is it :
A The layby close to the Druid?
B The layby on the Pot Hole Quarry side, in the direction of Ruthin?
C None of these? HELP !!!
Rich its usually the big layby on the main road out of llanferes (how ever you spell it) its on the left as you leave there heading in the direction of rhuthin
I shall be there hopefully :)
Would it be all right for me to join you on this trip as last week was a bit of a let down?
I would need to lend a lid and lamp but if someone would be kind enough to lend me one there's a pint for you? ;)
I have cut my right hand on a rusty oil drum. It is healing nicely, but I don't want to risk ripping it open again and making a bloody mess in the Bog Mine.
I may come over to see Doug, and also to bring Chris Phillips to join the Bog Mine trip. I can loan helmets to those who need.
I hope someone can then return Chris and helmets to the pub afterwards.
Which pub will it be?
Thanks Dan for pointing out the problem with a ladder fixing. That needs to be sorted before people go down there. It is a demanding trip!
Can I also recommend that people who have not done this one before take a look at the film 'Bolting the Bog Mine' on youtube, and make a note of how Tim Watts blithely crosses the scaffold poles.
I'll come along and will bring my drill and some new fixings for the aforementioned ladder. - just as soon as i finish fixing this bloody website!
Richard - the layby IS the Pot Hole Quarry layby ;)
I can't see anything on the map saying 'pot hole quarry'.
I assume we meet at the layby on the Mold to Ruthin Road, after Llanferres at 186596. Opposite 'Plymog'. Same as for Belgrave mine.
PS This web site is looking really sick this evening.
Yes John ....
"Pot Hole Quarry" is the name of the climbing feature on the other side of the field to where the layby is. Richard is a climber so I guess he uses that terminology to identify it.
For avoidance of doubt, here is a google map link;

:)
Don't get too bogged down in terminology Ian :p
The terminology of terminology could be terminal if your reach the wrong terminus
hi newstuff do you live in wrexham if so i can pick you up and do you know the way there
Something cropped up and I can't come now, so no need for a lift.
Richard - the layby IS the Pot Hole Quarry layby ;)
Thanks for the confirmation of that Ian. We couldn't do without you and we wouldn't if we could.

Hi John,
If I could lend a helmet and lamp I'd really appreciate it?
I guess cows tails are needed for this trip?

..... I would ;)
I guess cows tails are needed for this trip?
I would too... the drops are not massive, but will still mess you up properly should you fight with gravity and lose. And rescuing someone at or near the bottom of those ladders is not an appealing prospect for anyone.
Even I``m coming out this week!!!!!!!!!!!!
bloody hell hoss.... you in the doghouse???
Anyone else confident to take a drill and make safe whichever ladder it is? I could really do with supporting murf at the other dig.
Anyone else confident to take a drill and make safe whichever ladder it is? I could really do with supporting murf at the other dig.
I'm happy to take my drill but what else is needed to secure the ladder?

Yes, I know. But from the moment I got back home from the airport yesterday, I spent 6 hours last night working on it to repair it to the state its in now. That took me into the early hours of the morning! I've been busy with other stuff today, and with the band tonightand now I.m home I just want to try to catch up on some sleep, just off the back of 14x 12 hour nightshifts, 2 late night gigs, and another two day trip up and down to aberdeen. Making it,look pretty again is gonna have to wait a bit longer! ;-) apols everyone. We've been hit with some pretty hardcore hacking attempts recently which, while we've remained secured has caused me many hours of panic and work to try to rectify! I've done a site rebuild on some new and improved software ehich should help but there is still lots of work to do to rectify the database damage that was caused.
Chill Tim ....
No need to apologise Tim, you have put loads and loads of effort into this website and we all appreciate it :). My website DNS server was hacked recently, it was a DOS attack on godaddy :(
Will this update alphabeticalise the knowledge bank?
Dunno, I was gonna try to nip out to buy a couple of m10 knock-ins, some strip steel which I was gonna pre drill with an array of holes and a couple of stainless steel u bolts and hopefully cobble soething to suit once down their. I guess at a push, a couple of standard hangers and steel biners would get you sorted for now though?? Perhaps take some rope to lash it if push came to showe?

In a word, no. thats a whole different issue. It was promised with release of kunana 2 but got dropped at the last min. It'll require fudging some non standard code.
I've got a load of 10mm through bolts and hangers but not much else
Why notuse a coupleof them and some rope/biners for now. give it a good eyeball andlet me, or even better doug know what bracket would be required for a proper job. I dunno if mikes mended yet but if he's going, he'll keep u right. If you need any gear off me tomorrow just give,me a shout.
Typing on phone, sorry for typos!
can any one meet me at the druid inn as i know how to get there and not the layby thanks
Yes, cows tails are a good idea, and some people should ask for a life line down the winze. I think one set of cows tails might serve for everyone if they can be hauled back on a cord. The place where you would use them can be seen on the video. But as you can see Cool Tim leans outwards and supports himself on the opposite wall.

The layby is basically 100 metres past the pub coming from
The direction of mold, cant miss it, its massive
Right, if dylan can sort the ladder, i'll go and meet murf. Think we'll be digging from about half 4. What pub is everyone heading to later??
Yes, I would like to know which pub - so I can pick up Chris.
I by far prefer the White Horse Cilcain - best real ale.
Has somebody who's coming tonight got a key to get into the old boggy hole ?
I'm coming on tonights trip but might be a little late. Would it be possible for someone to wait in the Llanferres laybe for me as I don't know where the bog mine is.
it's not locked deano, the locks have been cut off.
and yes, cows tails would be a good idea..
from our trip -

Thanks for the trip last night, I had a good time even though it did take some words of encouragement and more energy than I had to get back out. I think I need to work on my fitness.
I nearly cried trying to walk up the stairs into work today ha
Was nice to meet quite a few of you. Could someone please remind me who I was down the mine with so I can put some names to faces?
Also did anyone see the nice young lady in the pub, is she part of the club? ;)
Tom
The people you were with were;
Evan (Aka Hoss) - probably fiddling with the lock
Hywel - probably smoking, has an Corsa
Chris - tall and blonde - probably fairly quiet
Deano and Vikki - probably cavorting most of the trip
Richard S - Had sunglasses on in the layby, was eating a sandwich
Dylan - probably scuttling around really quickly and disappearing on "investigations" and possibly messing with bolts on ladders
Mike L (club chairman - not sure if he went) - looks like a scouser
John N - Hanging around in the layby with an oversized yellow Military Landrover type thing
Me (Ian) arrived at the layby, went to look for "Mr B" at the Druid, returned, was given a wad of cash from Evan to give to Murf (which I may have pocketed) and then left for the dig
The "girl" (if you were at the Brit) would have been Rhiannon and we do consider her to be part of the family
I assume you would like me to email you a membership form ? ;) ;)
:)
Ian
And you forgot John Nicholson who was at the gathering and provided helmets.
Are Deano and Vikki now 'an item'?
I didn't forget you John - read up ;)
OOPS - Sorry!
Shame i'd already arranged a Thursday trip as I keep saying i'd like to do Bog Mine - everybody talks about it! Looking at your photo from the trip must say I do like those stemples, now I MUST go :D
Hopefully shall join you all out again soon :)

You are better off doing the SRT trip with us when we do it mate. Down New shaft (i think, could be wrong on the name) and up and out of bog mine :). Water level might be too deep to do it at the moment though.
You got the name right Mr (I move all over the country in mysterious ways) Suboffender.
The water was fine on Thursday but you never know lol ....
;)
