All being well Bella and I can come on Thursday. We would like to do either OHA or Nadogil. We may struggle to be at Cilcain bridge by 6.30 but will not be much later.
I now have an electron and spreaders available if people want to do OHA.

Maybe the choice should be left to the night in case we get a lot of rain and the river is high.

I wouldn't mind an SRT'er to nip down susan shaft with me to have a look at the easy dig down there?

Tim mentions the Susan dig and the thread goes very quiet!!!

Yes, because he has been trying to sell Susan's shaft to everyone for a long time and most of us don't associate girls names with shafts.

.... There is a possibility he is pimping something none of us want to go near

I will play the Susan game when I have completed the SRT course, and done some easy SRT trips and feel totally happy about it.  I am also observing the apparent lack of response to Susan requests on the board - but I assumed (may be wrongly) that our more experienced members were all busy on this case, but they don't waste their time posting messages to the board.

you've hit the nail on the head john. Most of the normal work parties are out of action at the moment.... :-( Mikes away, Crazy and Doug aren't around and Murf prefers surface operation digs i think these days.

Seems like Nadolig is the preferred trip - do we have a leader?

I will if I am there - otherwise I expect they will all get lost like they did in the mine at the weekend

We did manage to get out OK - but we failed to find the trhough route. I still can't believe there is a passageway somewhere on that level that we did not find.

Nadolig it seems to be then.  Do we need a rope to do the Angels flight down the cliff?
I can't remember if Guy brought one when we did this cave last time nearly a year ago.

Not heard from Joel or Chris yet, so I don't know if they will be comming with us.  I will collect Bella from Rhostryfan at 4.00 if she is on time and we will make our way to Cilcain immediately.

Keen to have a look at this Nadolig thing: presume it's 6.30 at Cilcain.

As some people don't know where Nadolig is - it would be sensible to ALL meet at Cilcain Bridge at 6:30pm.

Evan - can you adjust the header please ?

Richard - I thought you were climbing in Italy ????

Got back a few hours ago. Tired, disgruntled and emotional.  Italian Dolomites are as damp as it is here: just a bit warmer.

I am bringing Bella, Chris and Steph.
Can I suggest we go to the White Horse afterwards as it is a long way extra for us to get to the Brittania?

John, you took the words right out of my mouth. :-)

Deano and I are going to penetrating Susan simultaneously in an attempt to enlarge her internal cavities and then we'll  more than likely be in the 'dirty' bar at the White Horse between about 8:30 or 9:00ish.

(That's the one you enter via the side door as opposed to the front).

Mines a Guinness! ;-)

I assume we will be doing Nadolig, except Tim and Deano who will be playing in Susan shaft.

Where will we meet - Cilcain Bridge or the track that leads to the Sewage works?

well, Deano and I went down Susan. Then we met up in the White Horse at Cilcain with Boydy, John, Bella, Thingy and Thingy (Sorry i am CRAP with names). And  very nice pint or two was enjoyed :-)

Very sorry that we missed Richard and someone else who were waiting at Cilcain bridge, whilst we were at the Sewage works entrance.  I have left home before Ian's message was posted, and we went to look down Susan shaft before making direct to Nadolig.

Thingy and thingy are Chris and Stephanie.  They really enjoyed the trip and want to come on more - so maybe Poachers on the list next week, and then the first part of OHA the week after.

I did enjoy that beer at the White Horse - what was it called and who brewed it?

Deano, you just wait till you are our age. Remembering new names and places is next to impossible. I can't even remember what I was doing this morning let alone yesterday,
but remembering what happened at school 50 years ago now seems easy.

'Endurance' was that beer. See, I can remember it now but forgot it when I got home last night. Cambrinus Craft Brewery.  It was one of the nicest beers I have ever tasted.  I just wish I was not driving and could have settled around a good three pints of the stuff.  You people are SO LUCKY to live near caves and mines, AND so many excellent pubs that sell real ale.

Many thanks to Paul Boydy for guiding us all through Nadolig.  It is a twisty beast.
But my arms do ache this morning.  Why?

Could someone advise me who the third person was (young female) who was left at Cilcain Bridge with Richard and Mike so I can apologise that no one turned up to receive her/them before going into the cave please ?

I did not hear about any young female - just Richard Sawyer and another bloke - but then Vikki Sestan did meet them and they decided to go home.  Vikki then came to the parking site for Nadolig and found us all there getting ready to go, but she also decided not to come with us and also went home.  Can you contact Richard direct?

It was a pity that they did not come to the cave site but I must also say that Nadolig is not a good cave for a big group.  Just five of us was quite a squash.

I think Chris Phillips and Steph would like to join the club when you next meet them.  they can travel with me when I come, and Steph also has her own car.

Third person was me, so I wouldn't worry about it.

I wasn't feeling too good yesterday anyways, I should have thought to check nadolig before we went but thought the instructions on here were so obvious.

Never mind, I scamped off home and went to bed

Vikki,

I thought it may have been you from Mike's description. I am sorry you were left at Cilcain Bridge - the forum instructions were to meet there. It's good of you to be so forgiving about it but it shouldn't have happened.

I couldn't get out - really sorry  :(

Post by: John Nicholson on Jul 20, 2012, 09:20 PM
I hope you are feeling better now Vikki - and so also Tony, who was struck by migraine.

We did have a good time, but I did get in to a mess by passing my foot through the rope loop on the cliff descent and could not get it out!  I am far too heavy to dangle by my hands alone for any length of time and then of course I could not let go and reach down to release my foot.  We then found a neat foot hole just where it was needed!

Bella has said many times how much she enjoyed Nadolig. Unlike me, she is not interested in the formations, or the fantastic shapes of the cave cielings, or the fossils and the rock textures and colours.  She just likes the sporting fun of scrambling through the system.  I think Bella will soon be doing more with Tim Watts and Paul Boydy.

I had left home at 3.30 to pick up Bella and then collect Chris and Steph.  We did the trip to Clicain in the Battering Ram far quicker than I expected and got there nearly an hour too early.  We met Tim at the bridge and he invited us to see Susan, and I am jolly glad we did.  It is the first time I have actually looked down such a deep hole dissapearing into blackness.

Wouldn't worry about it. I should have took charge and thought to go to nadolig earlier.

Anyways me, Richard & Mike had a good old chat instead.

Glad that the lovely frog's back with us - that sticky-vikki was a right munter! :-P

p.s. I want to re-clarify that I was acting under direct instruction from the big boss! ;-)

Deano and I penetrated and enlarged Susans orifice slightly but the reality was that our equipment just wasn't up to the job. We need to return with a some bigger tools.

I can also report that Murf had a fun time at the Maeshafn surface dig site, he's got some new scaffold and timbers in place. I am scheduled to be digging there with him on Monday afternoon/evening if anyones feeling particularly bored.
