Are you ready?
Trip: Bog Mine
Trip Type: General mooch round the Ladder museum
Meet time: 18.30
Meet point: Llanferres lay-by on the Mold/Ruthin Rd.
Notes: It`s not called the ladder museum for nothing, this is quite a sporty trip with loads of ladders, some scrambling, false floors and water at the bottom level - all in all great fun!!
It will be interesting to see how much water there is in the bottom level - I suspect it will now be ceiling height again and impassable just like the Spar mine
ye not much chance of a new shaft through trip ( unless tim&johno turn up with there aqualungs).
should be fun though i quite like bog mine
You seem to like all sorts of squeezy, wet, damp and dirty holes. I have noticed you also enjoy caving

Charming
Would defo want to be in on this if I can get a pass.
Need a wetsuit??
Do you need cows tails for this one at all ??
You won't need a wetsuit - you will get covered in the usual goo.
Cowstails not essential but there are a couple of places you can and should clip on. Bring them if you have them. :)
or ucet clothing quota
Tim
If you are coming I think you may have a shirt for me?
I have just looked at Ian's film 'Bolting the Bog Mine' and it seems the 'Ladders' are wire laders similar to electrons, not nice solid fixed steel ladders as in Hendre. Should newibes like me be hitched to a belay for this trip?
Where is the video? would like a look at that.
Also could someone tell me where you will be entering the mine as I can't see the point of me going to Llanbferres and then coming back on myself.
PM if need be TA!!

I think the location is quite near to the Belgrave mine, but parking near the entrance may be restricted.
No, most of the ladders are substitutional things - nothing to worry about! We were bolting and fitting the wire in order to make the through trip from new shaft a bit easier. But all that section is likely to be flooded at the moment anyway.

I wouldn't call you a "newbie" and, no, you don't need belaying, the ladders are mostly short and most are rigid. There is a winze with a knotted rope to descend (walk backwards and downwards) but the winze is tight enough to wedge yourself into if you need a rest.
There are two areas where you would benefit from cowstails if you have them but you can manage without.
:)

For those who are curious (And if my memory is correct), Bog mine is a little way up this track.

I'll be offerering nine seats up for grabs in the team bus from the normal layby (as per the meeting point in Hoss's post). So I imagine we'll reduce the number of cars at the actual mine to a sensible number.
I'll also try to remember to have a belt and cows tails in the landy for anyone who feels that they would like to borrow them.
Thanks Tim
I thought that's where it was.,
Myself and 4737Carlin (2 of the group from AditNow last week at Bellgrave), will be there barring unforeseen Circumstances.

Yup, will be good to have you both along again :silly:
Good stuff - more the merrier :-)
I will be there too.
Thanks for such an incredible trip. I still can't believe that I achieved it!
I had a dream last night that Joel had set up a kitchen at the bottom of the 'Wet Red Carpet', and a delicioius smell of cooking onions was rising up th shaft.
Although I was very stiff and exhausted when we got to the Glan, I don't feel too bad the following morning.
Thanks again to Mike, Tim and Ian for taking us down and bringing us out again safely!
That was huge fun, and I think I surprised myself with how little I was worrying about heights.
I'll note not to lug a bag down next time, or at least something I can hang from a harness. Huge thanks to Tim for lugging it for me when things got tight.
John, You're probably getting conditioned to it now - somehow it seems to get easier the more you do it - and with the aches and pains!!
Newstuff! No problem with the bag - no problem at all. Glad you enjoyed admiring all the ladders! You'll find a thread on here about that SRT training if you're interested.
Hope to see you out soon - although i'll be working now for the next to weeks :-( :-(
Great trip last nights, cheers all for that, a hugh differance from the slate mines!! just been brushing the dust of my cloths outside :)

I spent nearly 2 hours washing mine before SWMBO decided they would be allowed to grace the house with their presence.
