CRTT
----
Some talk of doing the extra Shaft so we can do that if we think about taking some more rope.
There IS SRT involved which is pretty straight forward although there may be a knot pass to do. If we're taking extra rope we may be able to factor this OUT if it bothers anyone.
I have a Tandom Steel pully for the zip wires and some cord for pulling it back.
NB: Our official water safety officer (JohnO!) Suggests (insists!) that it might be a good idea (is imperative) for people to wear a buoyancy aid. Its not at all a bad idea based on having such a lot of metalwork hanging off you and based on the fact we'll be paddling across deep water in kiddies inflatable boats - piercing them no doubt on plenty of sharp slate and therefore sinking! I'd hate the thought of anyone struggling to undo their central mailon while steadily descending deeper and deeper with the weight of their gear!
So, BRING A BUOYANCY AID! - If you don't have one then let me know asap because last time JohnO magic'd some up from somewhere to lend out! Drop me a message below to say if you either a) Have your own b) Have more than one of your own - ie. have one to lend or c) Need to borrow one!

I would be interested in a trip on the 25th. What level of SRT experience would be required for CRTT? I have done a fair bit of underground abseiling in the past so am not afraid to chuck myself off stuff so long as I've got a rope on, but I've not knowingly done SRT!

Its straight forward enough and except for one small section its all in a downward direction...... BUT..........
If you're going down you nee to be able to get back up in case anything goes wrong - not to mention the short section that needs to be ascended by rope.
I'd personally 100% suggest that you get yourself trained up by Budgie prior to doing this or any other trip involving rope work. Not wanting to sound like an old woman or anything but when the shit hits the fan you need to know how to sort yourself out.
plus the bridges are not plane sailing
plus the bridges are not plane sailing
no, and one has totally changed in the last few months.
The zip line over one of the bridges has been taken down, so that there is now a traverse around the chamber. Can't wait to try that one out :woohoo:
fairy muff.
book in with budgie and you'll easily get it done in time for the trip i expect. Well worth while coz its a cracker!
im coming you bunch of wankers :woohoo:
i guess you'll be wanting a lift then fella?
Count me in for this one :)
Right - This trip is approaching..... I've edited the first post to reflect the people who have told me they are coming.
Still more space on the 'Bus', which i'll be able to drive right up the mountain.
Little Joe - are you going to be ready for it do you think?
Hi,
Im interested- some SRT experience and my own kit and have gained confidence doing variousness in Cwmorthin and other places with Labrat - who thinks I'm OK to do CRTT providing I'm not left entirely to my own devices.... If this is gonna be a fast paced trip or with lots of technicalities I'll save it for another time as will need to put in leave to cover the previous day's shift which ends in the small hours of the Sunday. Im happy going up & down ropes and with deviations and have done the via ferrata thing along the walk boards and other horizontalness within the same chamber at Cwmorthin, but not confident to do knot passes without at least some further instruction
I will be relying on own transport - if its *that* far from the road to walk then said transport will be capable of following Tims....
Coming up from South Wales or possibly Bristol if this helps with anyone elses transport logistics
I'd honestly say that you need to be totally proficient in SRT for this trip as you can encounter anything on the way. As well as the knot pass, there is a chamber to traverse around.
That said, we will be able to help everyone through it. I'm happy to run a days training session around or near to Dolgellau to get you up to speed?

DON'T WORRY PHIL you'll be fine it's not that big a deal and there will probably be a shit load of peeps going so don't worry just enjoy.
im more worried about farty mart going
Phil - right - the captains spoken - we'll keep you right. Theres no isolated wet pitches and i'll most likely bring another 50m of rope with me so theres always a way to bale anyone out ;-) I've put your name down now anyway so you'll HAVE to come! ;-)
Just replied to your pm on facebook, will arrange a date for later on this week or next week, but by the sounds of things, if Claire has taught you, you should be fine.
Like Tim and Mike have said, they will get you through the trip. :)
IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT
NB: Our official water safety officer (JohnO!) has previously suggested (insisted!) that it might be a good idea (is imperative) for people to wear a buoyancy aid on this trip.

Also, i've added a couple of suggested pickups (with times) to the original post at the top - can people please confirm where they want picking up from - Anywhere along the Pantymwyn, Denbigh kind of route!

You should DEFINATELY have one - this trip should not be undertaken without one. If you fall out of the dingy you will most likely drown even if you think you can swim. Seriously.

I can vouch for that too. That water is bloody cold!
steel pulley mike
that shaft is a biggy ask dylan
lacking in buoyancy aid, what type do I need to get? And no, if you saw me attempting to swim you'd be embarrassed to admit being part of the same species :silly:
I do have some old BA's that can be borrowed, but they don't come with any guarantee of usefulness (i.e. it's up to you to check it and decided if you want to use it) I also have a steel pulley I am happy to lend out (provided you replace it if you loose it or leave it  ) as I don't think I will be able to make it, I will probably get this kit to Tim.
JohnO.

Nothing wrong with the water it's quite refreshing

ball for adams apple spring to mind
Steel pulley?
Display of ignorance: Is it just the group as a whole that needs this, or does everyone?
I think I know the answer but as I have never done anything involving one, I'd just like to make sure. And no, I don't have one of my own!

I recommend the petzl tandem speed. Goes quite nice on the zipline :woohoo:
A cheap Petzl red alloy pully will do the job, but it's pretty much single use and it's quite diconcerting to see bits of aluminium flying off as you go along...

A tandem is better and a steel one will last but the cheaper ones work. It's horses for courses really.
In my opinion it is better if every body has their own pully or there will be a lot of hanging around (no pun intended  )

If you haven't got one then don't worry about it.
I'll bring a steel tandem pully for the ziplines and a thin cord to keep pulling it back for the next person. Most people don't have their own so its nothing to worry about.
I'll probably be doing some filming so will want time to set up my D7000 on tripod etc so if things are slowed down slightly by pulling the pully back across after each person then its no bother as it just gives me more time to faf about filming wise ;-)
this is what i'll be bringing.....

(not the cheapest place to get them - just the first link i found!)
They go like fook on steel ziplines - all'y ones just get wrecked and don't go very fast!
Can you add me to the contingent if there is still room in the super bus.
Ta, B) :woohoo:
Im sooooooo looking forward to be able to have a crack at this trip ! Is there going to be another one in the not too distant future ??
Im sooooooo looking forward to be able to have a crack at this trip ! Is there going to be another one in the not too distant future ??
once you've been and got the hang of it there is nothing wrong with organising a trip your self.
you will aways get people wanting to do it
re:-steel pulley's i would class it as personal kit.
then you can keep track on it use or abuse

Im leading Derbyshire caving club around the back vein in Cwmorthin on the 14th April.
On Sunday 15th , they are going to do the CRTT, depending on numbers they might split into two smaller groups. You might me able to squeeze in on the CRRT trip Deano. Will ask Edd and make sure that it isn't going to be a problem.
Awesome cheers Joel ! Keep me posted :D

i do remember me and dan going across at the same time once

Doug - You're in - as long as you promise to bring one of your super rubber rings (if you've still got them).
Can go on the roof rack if required - the ring i mean, not you.
Hopefully the 'raft' will be in a better state of repair than the 'bus' ;-)
JohnO is very kindly lending us some Bouyancy aids - even through he can't make it on the trip himself. If you've got your own then obviously bring that but there will be some spares for anyone who hasn't got one.
FYI
When we went to Rhosydd at the weekend we got through to Croeser and there was a dinghy all pumped up and ready to go.
yer theres 'normally' some in there but they often have more perforations than a tetleys tea bag!
The kinda - norm, is to take one in there in case. There used to be more than one boat crossing but it 'should' only be one (that you'll have seen) now that the bridge is re-erected.

Righto, the raft thing is still squashed in the bag since the last trip, hopefully it will still be ok.
:cheer: :cheer: :cheer:
Was that also the last time you were underground????? Seems like AGES since i've seen you crawling about in cold wet mud! ;-) ;-) ;-)

You just hav'nt seen me, that mud is great camoflage.
Did JohnO give spare life jackets to Mike on Thursday - or are you out this coming thursday john - or do you want me to nip round to yours to pick them up?
No I didn't hopefully I will be out on Thursday, but if not we can arrange to meet up Friday. When are you back ?
I'm due to get home this thursday early evening - 'hopefully' i'll be out depending on 3 flights being on time...
In the event i'm not back in time to get out on thursday then if you're going 'past' on thursday (dunno where the trip is?) you could drop them at mine, or else give them to someone else. Mike?
Failing that i could pick them up on friday or saturday - or even early on sunday morning on the way to the crtt (might be early in which case u could leave them outside at the front of your the night before?)
We'll assume we'll both be out on thursday and go from there.
I'm travelling up on saturday afternoon so will now be in Blaenau for sunday.
What time is the trip likely to finish?
Would I be able to get to Holywell for about 5pm?
And if so is there room for one more beginner!
Hmmm.... i guess you might be tight on time to be honest. Trip takes a good while and then walk back to car and then back down miles of track.
I'm intending doing some filming down there (Full 1080p HD footage) so i might accidentally slow things down even more too....
plenty of space on the trip for you though - so if u fancy it and the times ok then happy days :-)
You got any room left on the landy tim ?
Hi Deano,
Are you going now?
Yer im gona give it a go feel a lot more confident after doing the henblas shaft
Excellent!
What are you doing about sundays training?
Could you get in touch with Budgie to say we might be a bit late?
Sorry I'm slow answering,I'm fighting with internet!
deano. no prob. u're on the list for a seat. which pick up?
please can every tell me.....
Which pickup / meeting place?
do u need to borrow a life jacket?
p.s. some details on very first post in this thread.
ta.
Tim,
If I'm on the trip I'll meet you in Blaenau just give me place and time, somewhere I can leave the car.
I will need a life jacket.
Thanks
cheers tim your a star, I'll go to morrisons again if thats alright ?
got my arm bands pumped up ready :p nahh joking got a life jacket all sorted ready to go :cheer:
I'm not sure if I'm going to be able to make it Tim, not very well (no its not alcohol related) and as such, I'm behind with my essay :(
Tim,
Could you pick me up / meet from Tany lakeside cafe or would this be out of your way if your going to the other side of the mountain?
Rich, deano. Will you be able to make the srt training on sunday night? It's not a problem If you can't, it's just so I can let budgie know? :)
I bet they don't make it - even if they managed to get there "in time" (which I doubt very much), they will be totally fooked
I forgot all about that you know, ermmm will budgie mind, if its going to make things difficult for him i wont go on the trip
Yeah, it's not a problem. Can't see that he will mind. Will speak to him and sort out a date for the rope rescue stuff. Have a good trip and sorry I can't make it!
Thanks Joel
I will try to make training!
For those of you meeting us there. We'll aim to be here
http://maps.google.co.uk/maps/ms?msid=204742716867979022262.00049dd0b7bfb83297845&msa=0&ll=52.984291,-4.032811&spn=0.00093,0.001725
for about 9:00am.
You can leave cars here and then from there it is a drive up the track - (everyone can pile in and onto the landrover!)
Am i ok to be picked up from morrisons Tim ?
Reminder !!! Clocks go forward tonight !!!
Tim You will pick me up
Deano yup! see you there.
YES EVERYONE - REMEMBER THAT THE CLOCKS CHANGE TONIGHT!!
Guys im not gona be able to make it, sorry to mess you around
Just to say that we had a Great trip today. Everyone had a good time I think :-)
Loads of video taken and Marty was busy taking stills so watch this space ;-)
It was a really good trip. Can't wait to see the video.
heres my pics

Hahaha! Did a Scotty start the trip naked? Would have been a perfect opertunity to get my mankini out.
That group about in front of the flooded inline is a corcker Marty
What a fantastic trip I even enjoyed the run down the mountain! and made Holywell by 5.15!
Great photos - glad Scotty had a STOP - covered everything - thank goodness.
Mike I bow to your detailed knowledge of Scotty's gear
Great photos - glad Scotty had a STOP - covered everything - thank goodness.
the stop is a SIMPLE which is about right for scotty
Thanks for a great trip!
I was a tad nervous about it, having heard so much on the grapevine. However it was awesome and nowhere near as technically difficult / physically demanding as I expected (Ok, so we cheated and took vehicles right up to the entrance at Croesor) and thoroughly recommend it to those who have not been
The video of the trip is now online here:

Sorry about the wait!
