Title: UCET on Facebook
Post by: John Oh on Jan 25, 2012, 09:07 PM
Would anyone like to see forum threads posted to facebook. I set it up for our canoe club website to encourage members who do not regularly use the forum to see what is going on. We don't have the same number of topics but it could be done for say "trips and events"  & "News"

I would love to see it on FB but it is currently held on an ex-members personal page and I don't think that is right.

If we could have it removed and start it again on a club owned page (or whatever) I think that would be great !

Yes but it is still an attachment to an ex-member's account. That ex-member cannot be removed,

We could just start a new facebook page - beside which if we want to auto post to it, it has to be a facebook user not a group as it has to run a RSS App.

It's not about a another facebook page, what I am talking about is for members who use facebook but not the forum. The forum would still be the main point of contact but posts made to selected categories in the forum would automatically also appear on the ucet facebook page, you would still have to go on to the forum to reply.

I suppose there is little point asking on this forum if the people you would use it don't look here

I was thinking of this some time ago but......

How many people are we really talking about... i.e. members who use facebook but don't use the ucet site.... not many i would guess?

The last Ucet facebook entry was Tim's "Extreme Ice" 18 Feb 2011, anyone seeing that on facebook would assume we don't actual do much (ie no updates for nearly a year). I am not a great facebook fan, but is its out there and used by many, however info on facebook does goes out of date with in hours (one of the reasons I don't like it), so if we are to have a facebook presents we need to keep it alive - hence the use of forum message.

So either we keep our facebook page alive via the forum or remove it completely.

I completely agree. And I would support either option ;)

i don't see the harm in leaving as it.

better that its there than not there - if nothing else it has a link to the website that can only bring more traffic to the club site compared to it not being there at all?

John, which plugin were you thinking of?

www.rssgraffiti.com

But it will not work on a facebook group (well it does if the group admin installs it on their own facebook page, but then all the post look to be coming from that one person and the updates don't get posted on to other group member facebook walls so I found it does not work well that way). Other than that it is very good and allows you to post all the message or just the title - this force the interested party has to visit the forum to read the message, but also means you can use in in the private forum, provided the title does no give to much away.
