Post by: Ian A on Mar 29, 2011, 12:52 PM
Please note : I do not know the name of this mine â€" if you DO know the name, please could you add it to this thread and I will update the header â€" thanks !

Location
SN 674(30) 882(53)

Directions
You will need an O/S map â€" the mine entrance is on a public footpath which is by a footbridge. You walk past a house by a road and down a hill to the small river.

Access
Ungated and Unknown.

Suggested Equipment
Unknown

Length
Less than 1000 feet in total

Flood Risk
Unknown but adit #3 is flooded to neck depth at time of posting

Mine Attributes
Lead or silver.

Description
The mine appears to be substantial with numerous adits (at least 5) on both sides of the small river with significant spoil heaps and ruined buildings where the ore would have been processed.

There is a “shaft” marked on top of the hill by the house you have to pass and two adits on the same side of the river appear to connect internally but may not do.

The main workings appear to be on the other side of the river where the ruined buildings and spoil heaps are.

Adit #1
Blind after 20 feet with lots of empty whisky bottles

Adit #2
About 100 feet then blind. Featureless and barren

Adit #3
Flooded to neck depth but goes to an impassable collapse after around 150 feet

Adit #4
About 600 feet with two passable collapses. Some mineralisation and the railway line is still intact in the back half of the mine. There is some sulphurisation further in and some rocks containing galena towards the terminus in an apparent badly stacked area of “deads”

Adit #5
Pretty much a single straight line driven in a different manner to the other adits being a little taller and a little narrower. It goes for around 150 feet and comes to an impassable collapse. There are several very nice examples of sulphur gour formations and flow on the walls (nice bright yellow)
