Here it is:
Trip: Hendre Spar Mine
Trip Type: watersports - boating fun on record low water to explore unseen parts of the mine
Meet point: The Oak, Hendre(car park not bar)
Meet time: 18.30
Notes: The intention is to take as many floatation devices as possible and explore the unseen parts of the mine as the water level is currently at a record low.
You will get wet if you take part but feel free to spectate. cameras welcome!!
WE ALSO NEED TO MAKE SURE WE ASK FOR PERMISSION TO PARK AT THE PUB.
I'll be working - but please please please, someone take a camera!
I'm up for this trip :woohoo: Apart from srt gear is it worth bringing a wetsuit?
dont think you will need SRT but defo wetsuit!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I thought you needed to abseil down to the lowest level of hendre spar
na, it`s a nice little wander down the ladders!!
Sorry I was thinking of the hole you can abseil through
It would be good to see you Dylan ....
The water level has never been this low and this is the first time we can get into the lowest workings.

ian,
Just thinking about what great footage this could be - but high likelyhood of a wet camera.
if i dropped off my camera in the scuba housing with mike before i leave would you be up for getting it wet on my behalf?
Contols are as easy as pressing the top white button for on/off and the big yellow shutter release for start/stop recording. Its old, doesn't even let you zoom while videoing.
its pretty much bomb proof - i've dived down to 50ish meters with it :-) If anything went 'wrong' i wouldn't hold you liable!
Let me know because i'll leave it charged, memory card cleared etc etc.
Cheers Tim .... I have one but the quality is a bit crap ....leave it with me, I may drown another one ;)
Count me in! Looking forward to my first thursday evening trip :-)
As the self appointed UCET Water Safety Officer :woohoo: I would like to ask all members on this trip to bring a BA (buoyancy aid (Life jacket)) with them if they have one.
The water will be cold and wet  I know this from personal experience
Being a UCET trip it is inevitable that you WILL fall in and if you don't then you may just get a small push
I have about 5 BA's that I can bring.
Regards
JohnO
"UCET Water Safety Commander"
Gas meter needed for this in case of small amount of carbon dioxide sitting on top of the water ..it can be found at the very lowest points of a mine in its sumps so be careful.

It's basic safety kit, lakes people swim in generally aren't under ground and have sun to warm them so will be around 14-15degc at this time of year (still cold), the water in the spar mine I expect will be 10degc or less, not that many people actually swim in them so have no experience of the cold and not everyone will have a wetsuit. You are planning on taking in inflatables so you will be further away from the dry land, most of the spar mine has very steep sides which would be impossible to climb out of and there is a good change of your lamp failing if you fall in.
Maybe next time you climb the Old Man you should consider leaving your rope at home
A little safety is not hard to put in place, explaining why someone didn't come home is!
Rant Over.

I see JohnO has created a self-promotion system within the club. I think this is an excellent idea and, of course, as we know from science;
For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction
Therefore, I am reducing my own rank from "Secretary" to "Club Splod"

with me not beeing familiar with admiralty , is that commander or admiral????????? please confirm
so, what happened - did anyone drown....or at very least get wet???
Quotedid anyone drown
No we were all wearing BA's or Arm bands or in a ring or in a boat, Apart from ONE, Now who could that have been?
I did a spot of SPAR Snorkelling (crap video to follow) until my fins strap snapped and I ended going around in a circle. :woohoo:
The water is now so low that you can walk most of it to the right, then it drys out completely, Crazy measured it to be distance to the working face to be about 1Km. (see knowledge bank photos)
To the left the water goes deeper but Guy reported another lower level and an incline.
I think it will continue to drop as the amount is has drop can not be just down to dry conditions.
John.
