Title: Titan Trip - 27th August!!
Post by: Tim Watts on Aug 14, 2011, 02:42 PM
I want to kick off a Titan Trip through to peak.
Who's up for it and who wants to lead it?  - i've not done it before!

If theres no-one keen to lead it i can get in touch with some mates up that way to try to get assistance.

(Note have been in discussion with Robbie Shone today - who can organise local help).

Is it suitable for novices - may be a stupid question but I don't know?

I haven't done the trip myself so I can't answer it    But I am sure Tim and many others can !  B)

first pitch approx 50 metres
second pitch approx 70 metres
third pitch aprox 80 metres with a re-belay under a overhang .(can be quite a challenge for a noobie). if we can get you trained up on time you should be ok. it's a long way down and you should at least go up aund down north henblas (aka pepie's) a few times to put you in the mood

I wouldn't put a novice any where near it...

One caver I know is banned from the cave for taking novices in, twice! Two major rescues later...

It's not really a place to get "hung up" nor is it my ideal location for trying to "talk" somebody out of trouble.

Mike, I'm intrigued that you assumed it was a she...

as it happenes it was, and no, nothing to do with me or any of the clubs I belong to.

I won't name names on a public forum but everybody really ought to know who as they are likely to get dragged into something they dont want to be involved in if they aren't aware. I guess by your assumption of gender that you might already have an inkling of who...

Will the trip be going out of Speedwell? I've always wanted to see Speedwell and I really really don't fancy going up and out of Titan

Just one of a large number of dubious activities you like!

I've been in touch with Robbie and he's looking into a local guide for us who'll be able to show us round a bit more of the three counties system :-)

Robbie himself will have emigrated by then or he said he'd have guided us himself - (innsbruck)

sorry - read "Peak Speedwell System"! Heads up my arse this morning!

Titan â€" Peak (via The White River Series) sounds like a good one - circa 8 hours i believe and is my personal favorite choice as i understand it includes the 'best' of the system.

Or if Mikes really keep to go UP Titan then what about the James Hall to Titan trip - 5/6 hours.

Southsea Spelaeological Society are in there that weekend so we may be able to come to some arrangement regarding rigging/derigging.

if I had to move the dates to either the

27/28th Aug (next weekend)
or
3/4th Sept (weeekend after)

Would people still be able to make it?
Title: Re: Titan Trip - 1st or 2nd October

You'll possibly notice that i've changed the date of the trip to the 27th August. I've had an offer from Robbie Shone to lead the trip for us which should be awesome as he's got bag of experience in there and will be able to tell/show us so much more. I know its a bit late notice for many people but its the only weekend that fits before he emigrates to Innesbruck! If need be we'll try to put another trip on at a later date for those who aren't able to make it.

If you CAN make it next weekend (sat 27th) then please get in touch to confirm on here ASAP.

Proposal is to do Titan through to Peak, but we could Look at doing James Hall/Titan options (which are shorter if anyone wants to).

Yer i'm sure we'll go again soon.

I've made some plans to get down OHA for a day with a drill to put some fixed attachments and height markers for the siphon tube so we'll get another OHA attempt sorted too.

As far as i'm concerned:

The OHA Trip - is not planned YET.

Titan Trip has moved to 27th August instead of being n October. (I guess another trip could always be arranged if required though).

This trip (on the 27th) is being Led by Robbie Shone who knows the place fantastically well and can show us more than just the simple through trip. The basic trip takes around 4 hours, he can extend this by as much as we want on the day.

Rob has also offered digs (next door to the pub) on Friday 26th August. I'm Pretty sure this will extend to a few of us and as such I can offer a lift to anyone (ian?). Failing that I could 'pass' on the offer of digs and offer a lift over on Saturday morning if that suited people better.

I have emailed the various bods for Titan access and also emailed the fellow who looks after Peak to obtain the required permissions to exit (Note: exiting via speedwell in now a big no-no!)

Yer i know you are :-( boooo! :woohoo:

Can't you move Cornwall???

don't worry - we'll sort out another trip. I'm just keen for this Saturday as robbie is emigrating later this month and it'll be the last chance to do a trip with him.

For Titan, I wish I could move Cornwall, but its been booked for 3 months! Tim - go and enjoy but get your photographic memory up and working and then we can do another trip with you of which I look forward to.  :) :cheer:

Am doing 320ft shaft and back up along with other stuff - sea caves, sea cliff climbs (the best climbing is sea, coz its more exhilerating)and mines, mud, crawls and water all topped off by camping with a bunch of friends.

However, we need to do some more fun stuff and then end up at the pub and surf cars again   and have more fun! You guys were great :)

Whats the latest?

I've got the key sorted. Plan is to meet at Castleton at 10am. Me and Robbie confirmed. I need a couple more to make it worthwhile. total of 6 maximum.

choice of either going fri night and staying over or just travelling over sat morning. I can offer lifts - will be taking landy so can get upto about six in it.
