Post by: Ian A on May 02, 2011, 09:26 AM
Location
SH 700(41) 195(03)

Directions
From Dolgellau, head to Barmouth. Just past the first village of Llanelltyd, pull into wide, tarmac forestry road (marked public footpath) on the right and park up immediately. The lower adit is there.

Access
Lower workings ungated. Main workings inaccessible. All on forestry commission land except the lower workings adit.

Suggested Equipment
None for the lower workings. Unknown for the main workings

Length
Unknown

Flood Risk
Unknown for the main workings. The lower working has a new culvert fitted to the drainage adit. There is an even lower level which is flooded.

Mine Attributes
Gold

Description
The lower workings are small with a partly bricked up adit. The passages in this part of the mine are relatively short and extend only a few hundred feet. There is a false floor at a junction which is flooded indicating a lower working with no drainage adit.

There is also an internal shaft leading to workings above which are also short and which can be entered by an open adit just above the roadside drainage adit.

The main “shaft” is above these adits in the trees but require a substantial effort (and permission) to access.

The main dressing “house” is now a private residence close by called “Glan y Morfa”

Unexplored Passages
The main mine is unexplored

Digs
None known

The lower adit from the road has now been sealed off with steel bars.  :(
