As the club Captain has "insisted", here is the second quiz.
As before, first to 100 wins;
Questions
1) Where was this photograph taken? (5 Points)
2) Who took the original photograph? (10 Points)
3) What did the original photographer do to accomplish the shot? (5 Points) (There is NO photoshop here)
4) What year was it taken? (10 points - one guess each)
Looks like a laser Mabe a ranger finder to see how far it went.
Is it cwm mine
Sweetie
2002
Regrettably, every single answer was incorrect
The photographer has got to be Marty.
And the effect will be a flare
No and No (sorry :( )
It’s a copper mine perhaps
The secret one
And was it a try for infra red somehow. 2003
No and No ;)
You had your one guess at the year
Tony Salisbury took the picture
No
You are guessing instead of reasoning it out
It’s you.
Lol
And you accomplished a red photo lol
I did say the "original" photographer. By which I mean, the person whose arm you can see and the camera you can see, took the original shot. I am stood behind and the shot you see is from my camera.
The question is who contrived, set up and took the original shot. How was it done and where were we?
Johno took the photo using a red filter
Maybe not a red filter but a red flash gun
JohnO is correct for 10 points.
Not a red flash gun ....

Questions Left
1) Where was this photograph taken? (5 Points)
3) What did the original photographer do to accomplish the shot? (5 Points) (There is NO photoshop here)
4) What year was it taken? (10 points - one guess each)
Is it some form of metal / nitrate being burnt for the red colour?
Random guess at 2009?
Sent from my NE2213 using Tapatalk
Has he put a slave flash in the water, in a red plastic container/bag of some sort?
And is it Poachers?
Nothing is being burnt to cause the "red" and it wasn't 2009 (Sorry Kieran)
It wasn't Poacher's (Sorry Les)
He did put a slave flash in the water (well, he chucked it in) so I will give you 5 points for that - no red bag though and it was a standard slave flash bulb :silly:
Leaderboard
10 Points - Mike L
5 Points - Les
I can't believe the "Red" hasn't been explained (I know I didn't ask) - I thought it was obvious. So, I am adding an extra question...
Questions Left
1) Where was this photograph taken? (5 Points)
4) What year was it taken? (10 points - one guess each)
5) What is causing the "Red"? (5 Points)
Cabin shaft or ragmans
Cabin shaft or ragmans
No and No
Then it's Cae Coch Sulfur mine, or maybe Paris Mountain
And the red is the acid water...
Blimey, that took a while to get there ….
The “water†is naturally red. The photograph was taken using an ordinary slave flash bulb that simply blew out the natural red colour …. Quite a spectacle really.
It is, of course, Cae Coch Sulphur mine and the “Red†is the acid water â€" 10 points to Les.
The year was 2011 â€" no one guessed it so I am having those points myself.

5) Which cave were we visiting? (5 Points)
6) What was the year? One guess each (10 Points)

3) What was the name of the Number one hit? (5 Points)
4) What was the name of the band he/she was a founding member of? (2 Points)
5) Which cave were we visiting? (5 Points)
6) What was the year? One guess each (10 Points)
I don't know the year but I shall guess it's 2009
Looking at the cavers I can see SRT kit and the open cave entrance (exit) is probably Brow Gill and you are doing/have done the through trip from Calf Holes, the only through trip that goes under the Pennine Way...
That looks like the flanks of Ingleborough (Simon Fell) to the left behind them and Whernside directly behind them
Sledgehammer (writer of no 1hit)
Charlotte (wife of no 1hit writer)
Nicole (daughter of no 1hit writer)
Omd
I have no idea about the song/song writer/band though and aren't sure if one of those I haven't named is actually the songwriter, or someone has the same name as the songwriter...
Sledgehammer (writer of no 1 hit)
Sledgehammer was a hit for Peter Gabriel
Omd
OMD have not had a number one hit, I believe the highest they have charted is number 3 (twice) in the UK charts with "Souvenir" and "Sailing on the Seven Seas"
So, just in case...
Martin Cooper co wrote "Souvinir" with Andy McClusky
He was also a founding member of OMD
So if it is OMD then it is probably Martin Cooper because it sure as hell isn't Andy McClusky...
Oooh...
So a bit of research I find the other OMD founder member Stuart Kershaw co wrote "Whole again" for the band Atomic Kitten, which went to number 1...
In which case is one of the others on the trip Stuart Kershaw?
Les has the location correct (Browgill/Calf Holes) for 5 more points but the year is wrong (sorry).
Mike has the three remaining names correct (well, I will accept “Sledgehammer†instead of “Ian Jackson†as that was his nickname (nothing to do with Peter Gabriel)). He also was the person who wrote the number one (Ian Jackson) and he was a founder of the band â€" Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark (OMD). That’s 7 points
The two missing answers are;
3) The number one hit was “Electricity†(allegedly)
5) The year was 2010 (October)
I have snaffled the 10 points for 2010
The information regarding OMD comes directly from the above. No excuses are made for inaccuracies. :p

Next Questions
1) Who is the dapper dude with sunglasses stood next to JohnO? (2 Points)
2) Can you spot the SIX differences between the two photos (2 Points each)
3) Where were we? (2 points)
The guy in the glasses is You, Ian Adams
We are at the Stamford Gate
So...
No Ian Jackson founder of OMD, nor even shown as being in the band, at any time
and no number one hits, especially "Electricity"...

Ian's feet, poachers cave, discovery of the fossil passage, don't know the year, my guess 2008
Ooooooh
Stones is almost spot on ....
Not my feet though (I took the photo)
The feet belong to Marc Carney. The two of us had gone into Poacher's to dig through (the trowel is in the shot) and we were the first to enter the chamber beyond which Marc named "Fossil Alley" (his privilege as he went in before me).
I will give an extra 5 points to Stones for naming the chamber that was found.
It was also 2008 - nice guess.

So, this is how it happened.
I was contacted by "Kelly Williams" of the Daily Post regarding the creation of the article and the trip. Having established contact, She "friended" me on Facebook (and remains a "friend") particularly as she wanted access to photos/info etc. from the UCET page.
Here is her profile piccie
I don't recall that name ever changing to someone else, nor can I recall the trip being delegated to someone else. It is possible that some reporters use different names for public image.
Or. is it possible ~(much more likely) that I have fooked it up somewhere.

So, to answer your question
I couldn't find a reporter named Karen Johnson in the Telegraph archive
I couldn't see any newspaper using the word "entities" in that way in an article
Professor Honstein is unlikely to have travelled here from Budapest college. If it was a significant discovery then I'm sure some much more eminent professors would have attended, from much nearer...
The said professor does not have an internet presence, every academic has one of those...
A plectronic infra-red camera system is not even a thing...
A local authority wouldn't have the authority (on health and safety grounds)...

I've got a feeling this isn't a copper mine and it's a gold mine in the Dolgellau gold belt

Subjective?
Did you read the Wikipedia article where it pretty much says the same thing? I don't know how it can be subjective. There can't be two mines in the same place without some sort of multidimensional worm hole...
I knew it was King Arthurs Labyrinth, but you asked for the mine name. Strangely I assumed that was what you wanted... :silly:
Thank you for the points.
By the way, the cars are in Gaewern Slate Mine up the road from King Arthurs...
Last Question :

Anyone else entering the quiz for this last round will score 101 points subject to the rules.
