UCET Trip Advisor
Howdy Doody,
Here are the details for our next Thursday night trip;
Minera Diesel Stopes
The adventure is to re-locate the mostly lost diesel stopes hidden well within the maze and down within the dark depths of the underworld. You may pass through the lost cavern of Vug, you may ascend the ladders of doom, you may enter the wiggle passage of damnation and you may cross the pools of eternal stench.
This is a non-SRT trip but is not-suitable for first time novice cavers. Be aware that there is crawling and some squeezes. You WILL get dirty and wet.

Can I be ignorant and ask what a diesel stope is?

It is a stope containing diesel.

It is only that there is a strong smell of diesel in that particular area. I don't know that the actual source has been identified (that's my ignorance)
Someone else may know more ....
:)
I'll be there :)
I'm not working Thursday so I'll be able to come along provided Minera is not going to be too difficult, otherwise I will be along for the AGM on the 10th.
Greg it’s an srt or life line down the ladder to get in about 40ft

The diesel stopes were an area in minera mines that stank of diesel due to leaks from a tank of diesel in the quarry. The fuel percolated down and contaminated the water courses leading into the mines. It is reported that the problem has 'gone away' and so the air is now untainted. It was never a bit problem but the name has stuck. The area is of interest as it might provide connections to other areas of the mines to the east - however this is an area which has not been explored for a long time and the chances of a breakthrough are slim... Both GCC ans NWCC have looked at this a long time ago. I would come along but am up in Scotland :)
Dave
I'm on this one.

Think I'll give this one a miss. Planning on going up to Nenthead on Wednesday to help out at the Mines Conservation Society. I will see you all at the AGM. I'll come down Wales on the 9th to watch the Grand National and have a few pints at the Glan before the AGM.
***** this trip is srt or life line down the ladder. ********
So if you want to abseil the 40ft shaft bring your kit.
Yes please. See you later
